With 25 new entries, the 51-100 list includes restaurants from 12 countries and territories including 10 from Hong Kong, of which six were new entries, five each from Taiwan and Singapore, and three each from Malaysia and the Philippines
Ahead of the annual Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants awards ceremony, which will take place on March 29, Asia’s 50 Best announced its 51-100 List for 2022, an initiative launched in 2021 to spotlight a greater number of restaurants each year.
Unlike the Asia's 50 Best list, which doesn’t often see significant change, this year’s edition of the 51-100 list saw 25 spots claimed by new entries. Additionally, a total of 11 restaurants that last year featured in the Asia's 50 Best list fell into the 51-100 ranking. These included Mume in Taipei, which fell from 15th position in 2021 to 54th this year, and Vea, which went from 16 to 63, though the reasons for such drastic moves are unclear. L’Effervescence in Tokyo ranked 19th last year, and fell to number 71 this year.
Hong Kong claimed the most positions in the 51-100 list 2022, with 10 restaurants, six of which were new entries, and include Godenya (#64), a restaurant that Tatler Dining has long championed and that has featured a number of times on the Tatler Dining 20 as one of the most important restaurants in Hong Kong. Tatler Dining 20 restaurants Bâtard (#82), L’Envol (#88), and Chaat (#96) were also new entries on the 51-100 list, as were Xin Rong Ji (#77) and Sushi Hare (#98).
Macau claimed three spots, including new entry Golden Flower (#84). Five positions went to Taiwan, including the highest new entry, Adachi Sushi in Taipei.
