How do you craft a home that is both memorable and made to last? Some of the most talented designers we know make it appear so effortless, as they bring together a tasteful blend of materials, colours, and shapes to create spaces that feel cosy, comfortable and optimised to fit the lifestyle of their inhabitants.

To be held for the seventh year running, Tatler Homes Design Awards - Singapore will celebrate some of the most well-executed residential projects that fulfill and also exceed the brief, delivering spaces that impress homeowners and visitors alike. Every year, we peruse over a hundred entries as we select the best home designs that we have featured in the past year; the upcoming edition of the awards night in Singapore will be held on June 27. Ahead of the momentous occasion, we unveil the panel of jurors who will weigh in on the best projects for the 2023 edition of the Tatler Homes Design Awards - Singapore.

Ed Ng

Above Ed Ng, principal and co-founder of AB Concept

Established in 1999 by Ed Ng and Terence Ngan, AB Concept is a Hong Kong-based firm that has crafted memorable spaces that combine rigour with warmth. Recent hospitality and commercial projects completed by the studio include Four Seasons Hong Kong, W Algarve in Portugal, and Paper Moon Giardino, an Italian restaurant in Milan. This year, Ng will offer his expertise as a juror for the Singapore, Taiwan, and Malaysia editions of the awards ceremony.

Kian Liew

Above Kian Liew, head of global interior design and technical services at The Ascott

Kian Liew leads The Ascott’s team of designers based across Asia while providing interior design consultancy services for the Singapore hospitality group’s key projects that span more than 220 cities. This year, he is among the new names to join the jury panel and will contribute to the selection of winners for both the Singapore and Malaysia editions.

Dawn Lim

Above Dawn Lim, executive director of DesignSingapore Council

Formerly helming the commercial and professional services team at Singapore’s EDB (Economic Development Board), Dawn Lim brings with her close to two decades of experience in working with private and public sector partners to develop, structure and deliver major strategic initiatives.

Lim leads DesignSingapore Council in realising its global ambition of furthering Singapore’s influence in the creative industries and making the city-state more loveable by design.

Melvin Tan

As the incumbent president of SIA, Melvin Tan is passionate about bridging collaborations in the built environment, and has been an active member of the SIA council since 2019. He is also one of the founding partners of Laud Architects, the acclaimed practice behind projects such as the Sparkletots Preschool by PCF @ Edgefield Plains (President*s Design Award 2020 winner), as well as various commercial, community and residential buildings across Singapore.

Nur Hidayah Abu Bakar

Above Nur Hidayah Abu Bakar, dean of the Faculty of Design at Lasalle College of the Arts

Nur Hidayah Abu Bakar is an educator passionate about furthering design thinking in Southeast Asia. She has been instrumental in the development of Lasalle’s design faculty, which is today recognised as a notable institution in the region. Nur Hidayah and her team continue to work closely with local communities while investigating issues and opportunities centred around social enterprises to create a more diverse and inclusive design culture.

Erwin Viray

Professor Erwin Viray leads sustainability initiatives at the university; prior to his current appointment, he was the head of the Architecture and Sustainable Design Pillar from 2016 to 2021. He is also the author of various publications and articles on architecture. As director and chief communications officer of Kyoto Design Lab, Professor Viray splits his time between Japan and Singapore while supporting creative projects in both nations.

Sabrina Long

As the dean of the School of Art and Design, Sabrina Long oversees four programmes: 3D Design, Design & Media, Fashion Studies and Fine Art. Before entering academia, Long honed her craft in Hong Kong and Singapore by specialising in kitchen systems and furniture design. As a passionate advocate of the engagement of students in professional practice, she has nurtured talents who have won awards at major international competitions.

Deepu Mahboobani

Above Studio director of Wimberly Interiors Deepu Mahboobani

With over two decades of international hospitality design experience, Deepu Mahboobani has worked on cross-disciplinary projects of various scales and typologies in Asia and around the world. Notable projects that Mahboobani has worked on locally include Marina Bay Sands, St Regis Singapore and the preservation of the historical Capitol Theatre.

She is currently the studio director of Wimberly Interiors, the interior design arm of WATG Singapore, the local office of the global design firm.
