Kuala Lumpur is a city filled with deliciously designed dessert spots that offer treats so irresistable, you'd swear they were naughty.

Evidently, dessert spots have not been spared from the trend of Insta-worthy F&B design but since desserts are generally photogenic, it only follows that the space where you can indulge in them has plenty of good-looking corners.

1. BuTian Desserts

Once exclusively a takeaway business, BuTian now serves its signature tea-based, triple-layered treats in a full-fledged cafe with a pale autumnal palette.

The store's name, which means 'not sweet' in Mandarin, reflects its belief in balancing natural flavours without overwhelming sweetness.

Designed by White Spade, the store's design concept extends its understated philosophy by featuring a subtle and neutral tone with minimal visual distractions so as to enhance the sense of taste.

Its focal point is the bar, which is highlighted by a diffused amber backlight, evoking the colour of a sunset. This creates a contemplative atmosphere, encouraging customers to savour the desserts while appreciating the beauty of fleeting moments, much like a sunset.

2. Flaaah

Reputed to serve some of the best viennoiseries in town, Flaaah opened its fully-fledged cafe store in Four Points Sheraton, Petaling Street.

A warmly minimalist space designed by Wunderwall Design, generous windows ensure the outlet turns golden like the pastries they sell from natural light.

To complement the exposed bricks of the building, the designers chose a sophisticated palette with a hint of a sheen.

The monolithic counter has a verdigris hue finished with brushed brass detailing. Furniture is sculptural yet modular, allowing for various configurations when required.

3. Licky Chan

Licky Chan has made a name for itself with unconventional (but delicious) flavours geared towards adults, but this does not preclude it from having playful and funky spaces.

Its outlet on one of the busiest corners in SS15 is ample proof of that with its exuberant colours, which can be viewed from the outside and is impossible to miss.

Neon colours reign supreme here, along with quirky shapes inspired by pop-up books.

Fun elements like inflatable furniture and a reflective staircase can be found, infusing the space with an aspect of play and making every corner instantly Instagrammable.

4. Piccoli Lotti

One of the city's most popular gelato brands, Piccoli Lotti, prides itself on offering freshly made artisanal gelato, as reflected in its name, which means small batch in Italian,

Its outlet in Bandar Puteri Puchong, designed by Ground Up, Design + Build continues along the brand's signature bright and airy look.

Soft undulating curves are a recurring motif in this outlet, from the ceiling and wall detail mimicking melting gelato to the inviting al fresco area at the entrance.

Light coloured wood and lush green plants complete the fresh welcoming space.

5. Chocc

Chocc is a cafe that serves only chocolate beverages made from the finest white, milk and dark sourced locally and from around the world.

Located in SS2, ID Candy set out to intensify the sensuality of chocolate through the outlet's design.

A glossy deep brown Venetian plaster wall in a stucco finish which backdrops the bar area conveys the irresistible texture of chocolate.

Details like the clear acrylic stools depicting chocolate dripping down the sides juxtaposed with round gold wall lamps set the mood for luxurious chocolate indulgence.
