Just when we thought things were slowing down, the F&B industry surprised us with a trove of new dining news, steering clear of a midyear slump. This June presented us with our most eventful radar to date, filled with new restaurant openings from well-known chefs, revamped favourites, out-of-town destinations, and even seasonal menus to ring in truffle season.

1. Sawsaw

Location: Poblacion, Makati City

The Kapampangan talent behind Café Fleur brings you another proudly Filipino concept, Sawsaw. Here, chef Sau del Rosario bridges familiar Filipino flavours with modern techniques and international delicacies, from the escargot laing to the bibingka souffle.

2. Deuces

Location: Legazpi Village, Makati City

Currently on its trial run, Deuces Coffee is one of the newest establishments to pop into the Legazpi café scene. Beyond their exciting list of caffeinated concoctions, the neighbourhood coffee shop also has signature craft drinks and an ample spread of comfort food like katsu curry and beef tapa.

3. Ember by Josh Boutwood

Ember is not about all the frills,” explained chef Josh Boutwwood, days ahead of the restaurant’s official opening last 14th of May. “It is simple, but good. Easy, yet excellent.” This bold philosophy and ingredient-driven approach leaves the chef with nowhere to hide, emphasising his sheer mastery of the kitchen. 4. Sarsa (Newly-Renovated)

Location: Legazpi Village, Makati City

If you’ve walked past Rada Street recently, this chic, tropical space may have caught your attention. But in fact, the 109 address is still home to chef JP Anglo’s famed restaurant Sarsa, now with a fresh new look after a major renovation. Dine-in and discover a different side to the Filipino restaurant.

5. Papa Bolo

Location: Tagaytay City

Get away from the city and head to Papa Bolo, Tagaytay’s newest beer and brewpub, opening its doors on the 15th of June. Boasting six locally-brewed ales, mouthwatering nosh from the talented Lampara team, and striking interiors with a spacious roof deck, it’s sure to be your next favourite hangout.

6. Takao Studios Coffee

Location: Tagaytay City

Following the launch of their food-inspired lifestyle brand Takao Studios, chef-consultant Mikel Zaguirre and his team have opened Takao Studios Coffee—a unique café offering eclectic Japanese dishes, craft beer, sake, and house-roasted beans to boot.

7. Las Flores (Filinvest)

Location: Festival Mall, Alabang, Muntinlupa City

Fans of Spanish cuisine are surely familiar with Las Flores’ salmon y salmon or Angus and foie minis. Thankfully, foodies from the metro’s south need not go too far to indulge these decadent dishes, as they’ve recently opened a stylish new outlet at Festival Mall, Alabang.

8. Pardon My French

Location: Bel-Air, Makati City

Live music, creative cocktails, and unconventional global cuisines are what you’ll find at this cosy new restaurant, Pardon My French. Feast on French classics like escargot, baked aged camembert, duck confit, or a timeless steak, or explore their international offerings like mussels in a Thai chilli sauce, lamb samosas, and nasi goreng.

The Japanese robatayaki takes centre stage at Nikkei’s newest dining concept, Nikkei Robata. Enjoy charcoal-kissed meats and seafood, from Iberico pork and US Wagyu to miso-marinated black cod and smokey unagi, while dabbling in some of the brand’s reliable sushi, ceviches, and Japanese-Peruvian cocktails.

10. Seasonal Truffle Menus — Metronome & La Spezia

Locations: Legazpi Village, Makati City (Metronome); Diliman, Quezon City (La Spezia)

Truffle season is officially in full swing, and luckily, two gastronomic destinations have brought the party to us. Have it in a lavish six-course French menu at Metronome or on your Italian favourites at La Spezia, the choice is yours.

11. Dot Coffee (BGC)

Location: BGC, Taguig City

Since launching in November 2020, MadEats has quickly become one of the country’s biggest and most impressive cloud kitchens, funded by a slew of respected investors from Tinder co-founder Justin Mateen to the YCombinator accelerator fund. Now, the youthful F&B entrepreneurs open their first-ever brick-and-mortar store, starting with the popular coffee brand Dot Coffee. To celebrate, they’re introducing new lattes, coffee-free drinks like salted caramel matcha, and a new range of snacks, too.

12. Le Bar

Location: Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila, Pasay City
