Held at the Mandarin Oriental, Singapore, the eighth edition of Tatler Homes Design Awards celebrated design excellence and collective efforts towards a more sustainable future with a gala night themed Green by Design
Sustainability, well-being, impact, consciousness, upcycling—these are some of the answers given by Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 - Singapore’s guests when we asked them what comes to mind when they hear the awards’ theme—Green by Design. Together these threads of thought wove a tapestry of Singapore’s design landscape, which is increasingly centred around environmental stewardship.
More importantly, this theme reflected our appreciation for materials and details in built environment projects that are conceptualised and crafted responsibly. It is our hope that this will inspire and encourage a collective effort towards a more sustainable future. The Tatler team articulated the theme creatively and holistically through the décor, menu, and selection of collaborators.

This year’s Tatler Homes Design Awards - Singapore was sponsored by incredible industry partners Barovier & Toso, Carl Hansen & Søn, Hafary, Home Action Party, Liaigre, Sol Luminaire, Spin, Surface Project, Surface Stone, Villeroy & Boch, and V-Zug, as well as venue partner Mandarin Oriental, Singapore.
For this year’s gala, Tatler Homes Design Awards also collaborated with F&B partners Crust, Float Foods, Green Rebel, Karana, Kind Kones, Limwood, Prefer, and Tindle.
“The Tatler Homes Design Awards have been going from strength to strength year by year. Beyond the shores of Singapore, to the Philippines, Malaysia, and soon Taiwan,” said Tatler Singapore managing director Stephanie Tay during her opening remarks. “We will continue to innovate and grow with you. We want to create a positive impact in the industry with you.”
Here are some of the highlights of the night.
The Welcome

Past the registration, guests were welcomed to two areas thoughtfully decked in stylish lounge and dining areas with sustainably crafted furniture by Carl Hansen & Søn and floral arrangements by Fiore Dorato.
Guests got to lounge on the Danish furniture brand’s exquisitely crafted pieces, including iconic evergreens like the Wishbone Chair and CH07 Shell Lounge Chair and later releases like the AB001 Rocking Nest Chair and RF1903L Sideways Sofa.
At the foyer preceding the entrance to Mandarin Oriental’s Atrium suite, two photo walls provided guests with a chance to take glamour shots, one courtesy of the Tatler team and the other by trophy partner Barovier & Toso. The latter featured some of the Italian luxury lighting brand’s latest creations, including the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 trophy and the Opera table lamps, arranged on a backdrop depicting Venetian splendour.

The Fashion

It is no secret that an all-black ensemble might be the default choice of everyday wear for many (if not most) architects and designers. But this chosen crowd went deep and delightful for the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 - Singapore’s Green by Design gala, interpreting it creatively through the evening’s attire in both a literal and figurative sense.
Notable examples include architect Goy Zhenru’s artfully draped top. Custom-made by A.oei Studio, the top was made of banana fibre textile by the Bali-based Greenman Banana Paper Studio, which Goy worked with on previous interior design projects.
Interior designer Molina Hun wore a Charro cape with leather fretwork by artist Carla Fernandez, which was co-created with indigenous Mexican artists. “This cape represents the impact of our work when rooted in our beliefs and the importance of collaboration to achieve a shared vision,” Hun shared.

On the stage, award host Tyler Wisler re-wore The Flamingo Suits’ butterfly-patterned ensemble he had worn when he hosted the previous year’s gala. “Re-wearing, or in this case, re-borrowing, clothes you’ve worn before is perhaps the simplest sustainable practice when it comes to fashion,” Wisler commented.
Tatler Homes Design Awards jury member Isabelle Miaja was one of the boldest and quirkiest guests of the night thanks to her floor-sweeping tulle overskirt made with her past projects’ technical drawings. “I made this today,” she shared. “I was at my studio and I thought: what’s ‘green’? What’s sustainable? And I saw my drawings just sitting there.”
The Trophy
Barovier & Toso returned as Tatler Homes Design Awards’ trophy partner with an all-new design inspired by organic forms found in nature. Crafted in Murano, Italy, each of the hand-blown glass trophies was conceptualised as an infinite ribbon articulated in three layers of gold, white and clear glass using a secret proprietary technique developed over the brand’s more than 700 years of history.
“It’s an honour to return to the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 with an all-new inspiring design,” commented Ed Ong, founder of M Luxury Asia, the exclusive distributor of Barovier & Toso in Singapore.

The Barovier & Toso trophy was displayed in a dedicated photo setting, themed Venetian splendour, where guests could strike a pose and bring the captures home as a keepsake.
The New Initiatives
The Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 - Singapore’s programme also introduced two new initiatives. The first one materialised as the new Adaptive Reuse award category. Conceptualised in collaboration with V-Zug, this category stands as a continuation of the Swiss brand’s commitment to champion sustainability.
At the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 - Singapore, it honoured three exceptional projects by Singapore-based practices that wield adaptive reuse as an approach to sustainability. The three winning firms—Woha Architects, RT+Q Architects and Chio Architects—were brought together to share more about their sustainable practices in a panel discussion at the V-Zug Studio in Ion Orchard this May.

The second new initiative was Architects on the Rise. Organised in collaboration with Surface Project, Surface Stone, and Young Architects League (YAL)—a platform for architects under 40 by the Singapore Institute of Architects—the Architects on the Rise initiative honoured three young architects with robust residential portfolios in an awarding soirée at the Hafary Gallery at the end of June.
Its jury members comprised architects Randy Chan of Zarch Collaboratives, Guz Wilkinson of Guz Architects, Wong Ker How of Asolidplan, and yours truly, the editor of Tatler Homes Singapore, Asih Jenie. The three Architects on the Rise 2024 are Christopher Chow of HEI Architects, Nicholas Shane Oen Gomes of HYLA Architects, and Zeeson Teoh Sau Wei of Red Bean Architects.

Winners and Patrons
Winners of the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 were given the time for a one-minute acceptance speech on stage. One notable thread emerged from these impromptu speeches: the importance of a supportive client. “This project would not have been possible without the support of a great client,” said Bu Shukun, co-founder of Architology Interiors, who won the Readers Choice: Best Show Unit category for a project for developer Ho Bee Land.
“This client-designer trust was unprecedentedly crucial,” shared Christina Thean, director of Park + Associates, who took home the Best Architectural Concept trophy for a holiday home in Khao Yai, Thailand. Some of the winning projects were constructed and completed over the pandemic years, and as such involved few to no site visits nor in-person meetings—a testament to the importance of choosing the right designer.
Winners of the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 - Singapore who attended the gala were also whisked away to the winners' lounge for an on-site professional photoshoot featuring a diverse surface collection.

The Menu
The eighth edition of Tatler Homes Design Awards’ Green by Design theme extended to its menu, which was entirely plant-based. The first and second appetisers, as well as the main course, were served inside the Atrium Suite while desserts were served at the foyer at the end of the award ceremony.
The brainchild of Mandarin Oriental, Singapore’s executive banquet chef Jeffrey Tan and pastry chef Kent Ng, the menu featured plant-based ingredients from some of the most exciting sustainable startups in Singapore and Southeast Asia. The Tatler team partnered with Green Rebel, Karana, and Tindle for the menu’s plant-based meats, and Float Foods for legume-based eggs.
The Sweet Ending
With their long hours and busy schedules, designers can rarely socialise with each other, so this year, the Tatler Homes Design Awards allotted more time for them to catch up with each other, releasing the guests from the confines of their banquet tables to the foyer. Here they were invited to enjoy the desserts, which included a selection of delectable confections infused with bean-free coffee from Prefer, as well as vegan ice cream from Kind Kones.
Artisanal beers made from surplus bread from Crust, as well as gourmet champagne and wines from Limwood, completed the celebration.
At the end of the night, all guests took home a goodie bag featuring a skincare package courtesy of Simple Wellness. Founded in 2014, this homegrown company is dedicated to offering sustainably sourced products and services that embody sustainability and social responsibility to discerning consumers.
Simple Wellness believes in utilising the finest natural ingredients and embracing responsible production values through meticulous brand curation. Included in the Tatler Homes Design Awards 2024 - Singapore’s goodie bag was the limited-edition Neal’s Yard Remedies English Lavender & Calendula collection, which featured floral packaging by Morris & Co, custodians of British artist William Morris’ extensive archive.
