Ring in the Year of the Tiger with a hearty meal at these restaurants

Chinese New Year is less than a month away, so our favourite restaurants have begun introducing exclusive menus to usher in the Year of the Tiger. Welcome it with full and satisfied bellies by indulging in classic dishes such as yusheng, pen cai and suckling pig—served a la carte or as part of the delectable set menus. Here are some of our favourites.

1. Min Jiang

Savour Cantonese and Sichuan delicacies with Min Jiang’s CNY set menus, which come in six and eight courses. Perfect for the family is the eight-course Great Blessings set, comprising auspicious dishes such as steamed hybrid grouper, stewed rice vermicelli with pig’s trotters, and the signature camphor tea smoked duck served with pancakes.
While the set is hearty enough, you may choose to top up with a la carte dishes—must-tries include the tender and juicy Mongolian chicken, braised sea cucumber and juicy Australian lobster prepared by chef Chan Hwan Kee.
Vegetarians are more than welcome to partake in the CNY feast, as the culinary team have also prepared set menu featuring the likes of vegetarian abalone, mock chicken and wok-fried mushrooms in fragrant truffle oil.

Executive chef Ben Zeng’s Joyous set menu lets you indulge in delectable contemporary dishes—the likes of pan-fried diced Japanese Wagyu beef, braised Australian fresh whole abalone, and baked Australian lobster with butter. 
On top of that, you may also opt for a la carte specialties exclusively curated for the season. Savour delicacies such as shredded braised chicken and snow swallow in superior stock; stewed ee-fu noodles with lobster; and double-boiled mini Buddha Jumps over the Wall. 3. 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung

With chefs that clearly know how to tread the fine line between Asian modern techniques and authentic traditional flavours, 15 Stamford by Alvin Leung at Capitol Kempinski Hotel is one of the most unique and innovative places to enjoy a Chinese New Year Spread. Some of the highlights include their six-course Chinese New Year Set Dinner which features Alaskan King crab, Korean abalone and Scottish lobster dumpling. 4. Peach Blossoms

With a collection of Chinese New Year set menus that have been specially designed by executive chinese chef Edward Chong, Peach Blossoms is geared up to be one of the most delicious and Instagrammable menus of the season. Kicking it off with their refreshing prosperity geoduck yusheng which features mixed fruits, fish roe and salmon, you are in for a treat with this healthy rendition of the classic yusheng. Some of their other highlights include their double-boiled cordycep flower soup that comes with a juicy crab claw, wild mushrooms, and imperial fish maw as well as their double-boiled bird’s nest with cream of almond and Japanese purple sweet potato. 5. Chopsuey Cafe

Visit Chopsuey café and savour a wonderful selection of Chinese comfort dishes featuring contemporary Anglo-Chinese and Southeast Asian influences. Kick off the reunion dinner with a healthier version of yusheng, featuring ingredients such as trout, kale, blueberries and wild rice. Then, dig into an array of delightful mains such as the meltingly tender steamed Shaoxing corn-fed chicken; aromatic red curry slipper lobster; and shredded filo seafood roll.

6. Golden Peony

Indulge in chef Ku Keung's set menus, which is composed of his delicious offerings made just for CNY. Its Fortune Tiger set menu showcases delectable dishes such as its baked Kurobuta pork infused with lemongrass sauce; juicy half lobster with egg white and Chinese wine broth; and buttery Wagyu short ribs stewed with garlic, leek and glass noodles.
