This week’s Korean entertainment roundup marks our penultimate coverage. Moving forward, we’ll continue to provide exclusive celebrity interviews, fashion coverage, fun facts about upcoming dramas and movies and more—being your go-to place for Korean entertainment and news.

With that, this week is filled with exciting casting news including Squid Game actor Wi Ha-joon possibly scoring his first lead role, Bae Suzy’s new drama and a new teaser for the highly-anticipated Now We Are Breaking Up.

1. Ryu Jun-yeol will star opposite Jung Hae-in in upcoming original series

Ryu Jun-yeol has been offered to star opposite Jung Hae-in in the series Connect. The original drama will be helmed by Japanese renowned director, Takashi Miike and marks his first-ever Korean project. Connect is the story of a man whose organ was taken away by organ hunters. He eventually connects with the person who received his organ.

There are no details yet on which characters the two actors will portray or if they have accepted the roles. For now, the drama will reportedly start filming in November.

2. Wi Ha-joon is in talks for a new drama with Kim Go-eun and Nam Ji-eun

Riding on the success of Squid Game, Wi Ha-joon is currently in talks to star in a new drama directed by Vincenzo’s director, Kim Hee-won. He will be starring alongside Kim Go-eun and Nam Ji-hyun, should they accept their casting offers.

Titled Little Women, the drama is about three sisters who are very close. Kim has been offered to play the eldest sister while Nam is in talks for the second sister. The casting for the third sister hasn’t been revealed yet.

Should Wi accept the role, it will be his first lead drama following the popularity of Squid Game.

3. Super Junior’s Eunhyuk releases new solo single

Super Junior member Eunhyuk has recently released a new solo single, Be. Eunhyuk wrote the lyrics himself and is a pop song that’s distinguishable by its bass sounds and groovy rhythm. Through the series, he reflects on himself as a child who used to have dreams and where he is now.

4. Bae Suzy, Jung Eun-chae and more confirmed for new drama

Previously, we reported that Bae Suzy is in talks to star in a new series, Anna. Now, it’s been confirmed at the actress will be joining the cast alongside Jung Eun-chae. The eight-episode series will be helmed by Lee Joo-young and stylised like a movie. It will tell the story of a woman who tells a small lie but ends up living someone else’s life because of that lie.

Suzy will take on the role of Yoo Mi, the woman who tells the lie while Jung will be playing Hyun-joo, a woman who thinks she’s better than everyone. Director Lee said that the drama will show Bae’s transformation as an actress.

5. BTS’ song ‘Friends’ will be part of Marvel’s ‘Eternals’ OST

BTS is going to be part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe! The group will be joining the OST lineup for Marvel’s upcoming movie, Eternals directed by Oscar-winning director, Chloe Zhao. Walt Disney Company Korea confirmed that the song, Friends which was sung by members Jimin and V will be included in the film.

The song is written, composed and produced by Jimin and is inspired by his friendship with V. This marks the second time that a Korean artist has been featured in a Marvel film after Psy’s Hangover for Black Panther in 2018.

6. Go Ara is in talks to star in a new film

Go Ara may be making a comeback soon. The actress has received an offer to star in Sad Tropics, a movie about a Korean Filipino boxer who goes to South Korea to look for his father. It will be helmed by the notable noir director, Park Hoon-jung.

Kim Seon-ho was previously in talks for the lead role. But following his recent controversy with his alleged ex-girlfriend, there may be some casting changes. If Go accepts the offer, it will be her first movie in five years.

7. ‘Now We Are Breaking Up’ releases new teaser

A new 30-minute teaser has been released for Song Hye-kyo’s upcoming drama, Now We Are Breaking Up. It shows the two leads, Song and Jang Ki-yong sharing an umbrella and looking at each other. The text reads, “Let’s at least love while we’re breaking up.”

Eventually, Song’s character, Ha Young-eun fades away and Yoon Jae-guk (Jang) is left standing alone with the umbrella. He stops looking at where Ha once was and turns around. The drama will tell the story of love and breakups.

Now We Are Breaking Up will premiere on November 12.

8. Hwang In-yeop and Heo Joon-ho to star in new law drama

Hwang In-yeop is finally getting his first lead role! The actor will be starring in Why Oh Soo Jae opposite Seo Hyun-jin. It’s also been confirmed that veteran actor, Heo Joon-ho will join the cast.

The drama will follow a cold-hearted lawyer, Oh Soo Jae (Seo) whose life turns downhill after chasing success all her life. She will cross paths with Hong Chan (Hwang), a law student who is fearless. Meanwhile, Heo is playing the role of Choi Tae-guk, a law firm's chairman who’s willing to cross the line between good and evil if he wishes.

Bae In-hyuk will also be in the drama as Choi Yoon-sang, a student and the second son of Choi. He will later develop a crush on his tutor, Oh Soo-jae and reunites with her at his university’s legal clinic.

9. Jeon Jong-seo and Son Seok-gu will lead upcoming romance film

Jeon Jong-seo and Son Seok-gu are teaming up for a new romance movie, Nothing Serious. The two stars are known for their serious characters in their previous projects—Jeon in Burning and The Call and Son in Sense8 and D.P.so the movie will be a change of pace for both.

Nothing Serious revolves around Ja-young (Jeon) who hates dating but also hates being lonely. Meanwhile, Woo-ri (Son) is having trouble with his dating life as it never seems to work out. The two cross paths and start an open relationship—they hide their names, their true feelings and their reasons for dating.

In the post, the text reads, “Our relationship is really ambitious.” Nothing Serious premieres this November.
