Beautifully detailed and thoughtfully designed, this home in Horizon Hills, Johor, is truly a sanctuary for the dwellers
Today’s definition of luxury has evolved profoundly from the ostentatious and grand. So it was a touch of serendipity that brought Alan Chan, founder and creative director of The Kreare Design, together with his clients, who shared the same love for understated luxury.
The clients, a pair of working professionals with a young daughter entering her teens, had purchased a large bungalow in the affluent Horizon Hills development in Iskandar Puteri, Johor.

They worked in the high-pressure environments of financial investment and medical. However, as seasoned travellers, their design brief was to create an oasis of rest where thoughtfully curated designs of space or pieces would remind them to slow down and appreciate the finer things in life.
“They were also specific in that they wanted something modern yet spoke of subtle luxury,” recalls Chan. “It was important that the design embraced the details of craftsmanship and contemporary forms over trending designs. This vision for their new home aligns with my practice, one of contemporary and understated luxury.”

The bungalow, which clocks in at 6,300 sq ft, with five bedrooms spread over three floors, is situated on a slope with the front higher than the back.
Therefore, the building is seen as a two-level from the front but a three-level from the back, which had an open view to the surrounding golf green and low hills.
