From natural fibres and breathable constructions to innovative cooling technologies, these mattresses and bedding are designed to enhance thermal comfort and encourage a more restful sleep on warmer nights

There was a time when a hot night was simply an inconvenience: open the windows, switch on the fan and wait for the temperature to drop. But, as the climate warms, the definition of a comfortable night is beginning to change.

While Southeast Asia may be looking at more than 100 days of extreme heat annually by 2059, the answer, however, may not lie solely in turning down the air-conditioning.

Just as an architect might orient a house to capture prevailing breezes or specify materials that respond to the tropical climate, the choice of what goes on the bed can be approached with the same attention to the composition of furniture, lighting and textiles of a well-designed bedroom.

From time-honoured natural fillings to contemporary cooling technologies, these mattresses and beddings take distinctly different approaches to making warmer nights more comfortable and a little more restful.

Featuring a distinctly material-led approach to thermal comfort, the British luxury bedmaker builds its mattresses around carefully selected natural materials, hand-nested springs and traditional craftsmanship.

Instead of attempting to make the surface artificially cooling through synthetic technologies, Vispring mattresses incorporate British fleece wool, which is particularly breathable by nature, and helps regulate temperature while drawing away moisture.

Other natural fillings include Real Shetland Wool, cashmere, horsetail and silk, each selected for its distinct contribution to comfort and the feel of the mattress.

Meanwhile, hand-teased horsetail preserves its naturally open structure, providing resilience while allowing air to move through the filling, whereas silk helps regulate body temperature while adding softness to the mattress.

The construction itself is also designed to encourage airflow. Depending on the model, mattresses are enclosed in breathable ticking and finished with air vents along the borders, allowing the mattress to breathe.

Additionally, Vispring remains one of the few bedmakers to make its own springs, with each spring individually encased in a calico pocket and hand nested using natural twine.

Available in different wire gauges and spring types, the springs can be tailored to individual comfort preferences, while their independent movement allows the mattress to respond to the sleeper.

Designed with the country’s warm and humid conditions in mind, the Getha Transforme Miracle Latex Mattress brings together a 100 per cent Malaysian natural latex core with the brand’s Miracle Latex, a natural latex formulation infused with Graphite+ technology.

Developed over eight years of research and testing, Getha’s proprietary Miracle Latex is formulated with Graphite+, which uses graphite’s natural heat-conducting properties to aid heat dissipation while enhancing the elasticity and resilience of the latex. Getha says the formulation can deliver up to four times the elasticity of conventional mattress materials, such as compressed fibres or foams.

For the Transforme Miracle Latex PrimeFibre Mattress, the thermal strategy extends into the quilting layer, where Suprelle Cool Night fibrefill incorporates Cool Flow Crimp technology designed to improve heat dissipation and help maintain a lower sleep temperature throughout the night.

Meanwhile, the BioCool fabric made from sugarcane-derived fibres is designed to support breathability and airflow, with Getha claiming the material as naturally cooling and moisture-managing. The brand describes BioCool as a natural cooling fabric developed to reduce reliance on synthetic materials, adding another layer of temperature and moisture management at the sleep surface.

The Transforme cover also incorporates carbon yarn for anti-static protection and Nano Silver technology, which Getha uses for protection against microbes and odour, extending the mattress’s approach beyond thermal comfort to the overall sleep environment.

For Palmér, the answer to a warmer night’s sleep is found in one of the world’s most luxurious natural fibres: silk.

Placed directly at the point where the body meets the bed, its flagship Embody Palmér is encased in spun silk, drawing away up to 30 per cent of its own weight in moisture in humid conditions—keeping the mattress surface cool and dry, while also reducing the cling and static often associated with synthetic fabrics.

Furthermore, the seven-layer construction combines an elevated silken pillowtop with multiple densities of pure latex padding and a Five-Zone Pocket Spring Base. Using natural latex sourced from plantation estates in Kajang and Klang, the Firm version adds a Seven-Zone Signature Latex Core, sculpted to cradle the body’s contours,

Meanwhile, the Lush version uses Living Memory Foam, a dynamic layer designed to respond to movement and body shape.

Additionally, the Five-Zone Pocket spring base aligns with the body weight and is designed to minimise motion disturbance, with a high-density foam perimeter providing edge support.

Sealy takes a more overtly technological route, with cooling features designed to address the sensation of heat directly at the sleep surface.

Its Posturepedic range incorporates SmarTex with IceTouch technology. SmarTex is designed to help regulate the sleep climate by wicking moisture away from the surface, while IceTouch is a cool-touch knit designed to provide an immediate cooling sensation against the skin.

Together, the two technologies approach thermal comfort from both moisture management and the initial feel of the sleep surface.

Moreover, selected Sealy mattresses also incorporate gel-infused ComfortCore, a concentrated centre-third layer that uses gel-infused viscoelastic material to conform to the lower back.

Available throughout the Posturepedic range, it is part of the brand’s broader pressure-relieving support system, designed to adapt to individual body weight and relieve pressure points.

For more than a century, the Italian linen house has treated bedding as an expression of craftsmanship, with its percale weave—suitable for those who prefer a fresh, crisp sleeping surface rather than the smoother, heavier hand associated with sateen.

Made from 100 per cent Egyptian cotton in a percale weave, the Angel Luxe collection has a crisp, breathable character, while a specialised non-chemical treatment physically opens the cotton fibres, allowing the fabric’s natural softness to develop through use.

It gives Angel Luxe its combination of a crisp percale structure and increasingly soft hand over time.

Additionally, that material is then used as the foundation for Pratesi’s more decorative collections. Treccia, for example, places its braid motif—derived from the spiralling columns of Florentine architecture—over the Angel Luxe percale, with the hand-guided embroidery and scalloped detailing completed by Italian artisans.

For the Malaysian bedding brand, Tencel Lyocell is another answer to the demands of tropical sleeping.

Made from sustainably sourced wood fibres, the regenerated cellulosic fibre is woven to a 300-thread-count construction, giving it a notably smooth, silky-soft surface that feels cool to the touch—an alternative to the crispness of cotton percale or the textured character of linen.

Enhanced with LF100—a treatment designed to improve resistance to pilling while retaining the fabric’s breathability—Tencel’s microscopic structure also helps absorb and release moisture, supporting the body’s natural thermal regulation.

Available in sheets, duvet covers and pillowcases, Kapas Living collections are OEKO-TEX Standard 100 certified, meaning the finished textiles have been tested for harmful substances.

Singapore-based Sunday Bedding approaches warm-weather comfort through bamboo—a rapidly regenerative crop that requires less water to grow than cotton, adding a sustainability consideration to its appeal in the tropical bedroom.

Specifically developed with heat and humidity in mind, Sunday Bedding’s bamboo sateen construction features naturally cooling and moisture-wicking properties, while the smooth sateen surface is designed to feel gentle against the skin.

Moreover, the brand’s products are Made in Green by OEKO-TEX certified, indicating that they have been tested for harmful substances and produced under certified environmentally and socially responsible conditions.
