Studio If has designed an Orchard Road apartment that melds a sense of home with multipurpose functional living. A couple from Hong Kong had engaged the firm to create spaces supporting their fluid lifestyles—be it answering emails on the laptop while at the dining table or hosting small, intimate gatherings over whiskey and cigars.
Gwen Tan, the firm’s founder and principal designer, introduced some changes into the 2,206 sq ft apartment to suit the couple’s needs. For instance, she replaced the original door leading from the private lift lobby into the living area with tinted patterned glass doors so that guests can glimpse the vastness of the interior upon entry and the couple can easily tell when guests have arrived.

Nikki Hunt, the founder of award-winning interior design and architectural consultancy Nikki Hunt’s Design Intervention, had the opportunity to give this 5,500 sq ft landed property in the Orchard Road area a makeover that encompassed turning it into a “wellness retreat” for its owners, a fun-loving couple in their 50s who occupy the home with their helper and two pet dogs. They are both also passionate home cooks who enjoy entertaining.
Hunt elaborates that the brief essentially involved creating an abode that would serve as a foundation for the happiness and wellness of its owners. “They challenged us to consider every design selection as an opportunity to enhance their well-being,” she adds. “Our task was not just to design an aesthetically pleasing home, but to evaluate the most impactful options and work to engineer a total wellness experience.”

When you think about a “resort” concept, wooden textures and green hues might come to mind. But Lawrence Puah, founder and design director of Akihaus, sought to offer a fresher take on the theme by going with an ethereal off-white palette and a restful modern scheme for an apartment in Singapore. It’s designed as a palate cleanser and an antidote to the stressors of urban life, just like how city dwellers would flock to beach resorts for a quick weekend getaway.
When the design team first visited the 1,567 sq ft apartment, it featured sound spatial planning, but could do with more daylight. The living room offered stunning vantage views of the city and the Orchard Road shopping belt, but the Akihaus design team felt they could be further maximised.

When tasked with refreshing the interiors of this apartment in downtown Singapore, designer Nikki Hunt revelled at the opportunity to wield her signature application of pattern and colour in crafting a stylish yet comfortable abode that represents its occupants’ diverse cultural experiences.
Encompassing a unified selection of elements and styles, the home shows off its continental and Asian design influences proudly, making for a comfy, classic residence that is warmly welcoming and utterly liveable.
The apartment is home to a husband and wife, their teenage son and daughter, and their pet dog and two helpers. The husband, who collects Indian art and sculptures, had lived in Japan for several years and appreciated the serene, calming quality of Japanese design. He requested that Japanese-inspired elements be incorporated into his personal spaces.
The wife, who is partial to a soft palette and Chinese motifs and design details, had resided in the US and was a fan of the classic American East Coast ambience; she asked that the main entertainment areas communicate a crisp, Hamptons-like feel.

Nestled along Singapore’s Orchard Boulevard, 3 Orchard By-The-Park is a unique and coveted residential development by YTL Land, with architecture by renowned Italian design maestro Antonio Citterio.
This high-rise community comprises just 77 residential units across three elegant, 25-storey towers, each designed as “villas in the sky”: a concept that combines the exclusivity of private homes with the city’s vibrant energy.
Tasked to design its 2,800 sq ft show unit, local interior design firm Superfat Designs thoughtfully crafted spaces that embody refined comfort and natural beauty for the modern global resident. Studio founder Lin Weizhang and partner Mae Chu drew upon Citterio’s architectural vision for a balanced interior that offers an impressive yet peaceful living experience.

Located right in the heart of Singapore, this modern double-storey apartment instantly caught the eye of its American owner, marking his first abode in the city. A transformation of the generous space—with a built-up area of 3,251 sq ft—was undertaken by architect Kelly Kawahara Cheah, the founder of luxury boutique design practice K2SD Group.
As she walks us through the airy, oak-sculpted residence at 3 Orchard By-The-Park, she reveals more about the design process and her relationship with the marvellous interiors. “The meaning of luxury is evolving,” she shares. “It is no longer just about surface-level glamour, but also about craftsmanship and evoking personality and character.”
Extending complete creative freedom to the architect and her team, the homeowner had just one request: incorporating the warm tones of oak wood into the design. Conceptualising the interiors with this in mind, Cheah pushed the boundaries of material application by sculpting the entire apartment out of oak. The result is both soothing and refined, allowing the dramatic, double-volume “oculus” staircase to stand out and shine as the home’s centrepiece.

With its breezy layout, inviting outdoor spaces, and mix of European and Australian-inspired elements, this semi-terraced house holds its own on the coveted outskirts of Orchard Road. Mosh Interior founder Shermaine Ong oversaw the renovation of the 30-year-old property, describing the result as “a little bit like a colonial black-and-white house and a little bit like a modern Australian home”.
The rather extensive renovation required most of the existing interiors to be torn down and then altered to suit the young couple and their newborn. The owners, originally based in Australia, approached Mosh Interior to evoke “a European feel and a laid-back, homely design” inspired by their previous dwelling.
The doors and windows were extended to let in additional light and views of the surrounding gardens, and window shutters inspired by classic European architecture were worked into the design, along with a pared-back palette that enhances the bright and airy interiors.

This 6,000-square-foot super penthouse was created by merging two large apartments, featuring delicate, botanical-inspired interiors by Studio If. The super penthouse was imagined as a combination of two “villas in the sky”, each one a three-storey home the size of a landed house, with panoramic views of the city.
As architect and Studio If founder Gwen Tan shares: “It encapsulates the true essence of villa living, with a luxurious 2,000-square-foot master suite over two floors with private spa baths, large private sky gardens, and a private lift lobby exclusive to the suite.”
To ensure the grand master suite would feel intimate within the expansive double-volume interiors, the bed was tucked under a lower section of the ceiling, facing the Orchard skyline. “The owners can fall asleep to magical city views at night and wake up to stunning sunrises,” Tan remarks.

Aptly titled Oasis in the Sky, this super penthouse offers exclusive views of Orchard Road and the city beyond, while cocooning the residents in an oasis away from the hustle and bustle of the city centre.
Designer and architect Gwen Tan highlights the rarity of the oversized master suite in particular, a feature almost unheard of in Singapore. As she tells us: “The master bedroom is like a villa within a villa.”

A creation of New York-based designer Mark Curley, this Singapore condominium apartment is a colourful potpourri of vivid hues, patterns and personal stories. Designed for a globetrotting husband and wife, from France and Honduras respectively, the interiors of the apartment were inspired by the couple’s Miami residence, which had been previously crafted by the same designer. The pair loved the colourful interiors of that space, vibrant yet harmonious and comfortable, and requested a similar design for their Singapore home.
The interiors were further adapted to maximise the distinctive semi-circular layout, featuring high ceilings, a spacious living room with grand views and plenty of natural light, and two terraces. On top of that, the bedrooms are conveniently located down a curved hallway, lending them privacy from the common areas.

The intent of designer Adrian Ong, founder and principal of Anthracyte Studio, was to introduce understated elegance and renewed vigour into the space. Considered wall treatments, new metal trims, subtle accents in the form of soft furnishings, and luxurious finishes are just some of the elements the designer opted for to infuse the interiors with contemporary allure.
Artwork is displayed throughout the apartment as the final touch, lending energising pops of colour and visual interest.

Bringing out the inherent charm of this semi-detached house, Summerhaus D’zign drew inspiration from the abode’s neoclassical exterior architecture for the interiors while streamlining the living spaces for a more minimalist finish.
The design team reworked the layout of the two-decade-old house by removing non-structural walls, which allowed natural light to flood the interiors and improved the usability of previously underutilised spaces.
Opening up the floor plan then made room for the introduction of personalised touches without the risk of overwhelming the interiors, the result a fuss-free, minimalist home that yet exudes a “quaint sense of elegance”.

Taking a cue from the family’s vivacious personalities, Summerhaus D’zign gave this Singapore penthouse near Orchard Road a vibrant and fully functional makeover.
“When we first went to the site, we were awed by the full-length windows across level one, which not only brought in a lot of light but also a panoramic view that was mostly unblocked,” shares the lead designer. “It was quite clear that we wanted to keep the airy, open and bright feel of the space.”
After visiting the family in their previous home to observe their daily habits and lifestyles, the design team thoughtfully let their minute observations inform the spatial planning and design of the refreshed abode. This further helped them identify the most intuitive spots to keep daily items within easy reach, while selecting the focal areas to display the family’s most cherished objects and artworks.

Serving its owners as their retirement home, this chic five-room penthouse near Orchard Road spans a generous floor area of 5,800 square feet, with a striking new design by Antone by D.
Rich layers and bespoke touches characterise the stylish interiors, with scenic views of the Orchard Road shopping belt from almost every room in the apartment. “There was so much potential,” recalls designer Divya Anthony. “It’s rare that you stumble across a space like this with open unblocked views of the city. The view took my breath away.”
Drawing inspiration from this picturesque panorama, the designer selected a material palette with understated hues and rich textures to sculpt the interiors. “Instinctively, I knew that anything that I wanted to introduce to the space should not compete with the view for attention,” she explains.

The elegant transformation of this Orchard apartment was executed by designer Renu Chainani of Ren Home Design, maximising the unit’s enviable views over the city, which are cherished by the well-travelled jewellery designer residing in the space.
Wishing for a “warm, cosy and personal” apartment, the owner requested modern-luxe interiors to reflect her personal style and to allow her collection of artworks and striking accent pieces to shine in the relatively pared-back space.
Therefore, soft and neutral tones were chosen for the home, complemented by pops of pink. Transforming a space into a blank canvas to add in art and accessories is the designer’s specialisation, having made her the perfect fit for this project.

Designed by TDC & Associates, the apartment differentiates itself from the many sleek and minimalist homes that neighbour it. Against the panoramic view, a palette of dark wood, reflective surfaces and glamorous elements lends the interiors a sense of classical refinement.
Fulfilling the owners’ request for a space to relax with a glass of wine while enjoying the view, a bar was built into the penthouse, doubling as the centrepiece during dinner parties with a dramatically lit shelf of spirits as the backdrop. Reinforcing the abode’s classical influences, the living and dining room walls were clad in bespoke floral wallpaper, and the floors in distinctive Greco-Roman-inspired carpets.
