With this tactile apartment at 3 Orchard By-The-Park, Superfat Designs presents a soothing home that subtly celebrates refined living

Nestled along Singapore’s Orchard Boulevard, 3 Orchard By-The-Park is a unique and coveted residential development by YTL Land, with architecture by renowned Italian design maestro Antonio Citterio.

This high-rise community comprises just 77 residential units across three elegant, 25-storey towers, each designed as “villas in the sky”: a concept that combines the exclusivity of private homes with the city’s vibrant energy.

Tasked to design its 2,800 sq ft show unit, local interior design firm Superfat Designs thoughtfully crafted spaces that embody refined comfort and natural beauty for the modern global resident. Studio founder Lin Weizhang and partner Mae Chu drew upon Citterio’s architectural vision for a balanced interior that offers an impressive yet peaceful living experience.

The unit’s design celebrates simplicity, a seamless flow and material quality, resulting in an understated elegance. “Luxury now is about calm spaces where time slows down, where comfort takes over, and where existing relationships can deepen,” the team shares.

Drawing inspiration from nature, Superfat Designs developed the show unit as a serene urban retreat, with details that evoke a sense of calm amid city life.

Rather than relying on glossy finishes, the team emphasises natural textures and muted, earthy tones, creating a subtle warmth that feels connected to the surrounding landscape. The interiors blend wood, stone and organic materials to capture the spirit of a modern home that is both relaxed and sophisticated.

The studio’s design process involved addressing a key concern about spatial flow. “The proportion of indoor living versus outdoor living felt out of balance,” the team shares. Superfat Designs proposed removing the dry kitchen to create a more expansive open-plan living and dining area, enhancing the sense of spaciousness and providing an unbroken line of sight.

This design speaks to those who seek a home that offers respite while still engaging with the city’s pulse.

Superfat Designs’ approach to this project was guided by refined simplicity, emphasising craftsmanship and minimalist elegance over decorative excess. In the living area, the team selected timeless pieces such as the sculptural Cassina Utrecht armchair by Gerrit Thomas Rietveld that takes pride of place, which itself is almost intended as a piece of art that pairs harmoniously well with the timber artwork on the wall. This restrained approach lets each piece complement the space, bringing out the fine details without undue distraction.

One of the team’s favourite design features in the apartment is a single, continuous feature wall that links the balcony to the living and dining areas, creating a unified, harmonious environment and providing an opportunity to beautifully showcase the homeowner’s precious objects.

Every room in the show unit has been designed to act as a calm, welcoming retreat. The master suite is a standout, blending rich, layered textures with an ensuite bathroom that has the ambience of a spa.

In areas where outside views were obstructed, the team introduced hanging tapestries that act as both art pieces and practical solutions, adding visual depth and gently guiding focus within the space.

Lighting was carefully chosen to allow residents to set different moods and levels of intimacy, further adding to the home’s welcoming quality. The design team also incorporated subtle screens and art that mirror the natural greenery outdoors, providing privacy while anchoring the interiors to their natural surroundings.

The philosophy is to “let the lifestyle dictate the home’s style” and to create spaces that feel personal, comfortable, and adaptable.
