Cover The Chairman (Hong Kong) scores top spot on Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants 2026 list

Tokyo, Bangkok and Hong Kong leads this year’s Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants ranking, with notable presence from Singapore, Mainland China and Seoul

The Chairman in Hong Kong has been named the best restaurant in Asia for 2026. Under the guidance of Danny Yip, the restaurant has been awarded for its compelling Cantonese cuisine that champions local and regional produce, often updating centuries-old recipes with modern creativity and an attention to freshness.

The list, announced in Hong Kong for the first time on March 25, saw Bangkok and Tokyo lead with nine entries and seven entries respectively, followed by Hong Kong with six. Eight restaurants are new to the top 50, with 15 cities represented in total.

In Hong Kong, Vicky Cheng’s Wing was crowned Asia’s number 2 restaurant for its modern Chinese cuisine crafted with meticulous precision. Neighborhood by David Lai ranks number 24 for its consistent execution of a spontaneous menu that keeps each visit fresh, while Estro’s elevated Neapolitan comfort cuisine comes in at number 32. An opulent atmosphere and consistently executed menu sees Caprice at number 35, while Mono, coming in at number 46, is commended for its complex Latin-American fare.

Tokyo features prominently with Sazenka (No 21), which executes Chinese cuisine with Japanese precision. Maz (No 28) stands out with its Peruvian tasting menu and Narisawa (No 37) is recognised as a proponent of the traditional satoyama farming system, which is defined by mixed agricultural interweaved with diverse bodies of water.

Bangkok’s presence includes Gaggan Anand’s Gaggan (No 3) and its outpost at the luxury dining and retail destination Louis Vuitton (No 8), along with Ms Maria & Mr Singh (No 27), which is commended for successfully merging the best of Indian and Mexican cuisines. Meanwhile, chef Thitid ‘Ton’ Tassanakajohn’s Nusara (No 5) is awarded for its innovative Thai cuisine.

Singapore fields five restaurants in total. Odette is named the best restaurant in Singapore at number 19, while Seroja, commended for showcasing the diverse and vibrant flavours of the mid-Malay archipelago, comes in at number 20. A new entry to the top 50, Nae:um, at number 45, stands out with a tasting menu guided by place, Korean culture and chef Han Seok Hyun’s personal experiences.

Penang’s culinary excellence is represented by Kim Hock Su’s Restaurant au Jardin (No 39), named for its dedication to terroir-driven cuisine while crafting traditional flavours with French culinary flair.

Tam Kwok Fung’s Chef Tam’s Seasons, ranked at number seven, is named the best restaurant in Macau, celebrated for its hyper-seasonal approach to Cantonese dining that adheres to the 24 solar terms of the lunar calendar.

Taipei’s sole entry, Logy, at number 22, is the highest-ranked restaurant in the city, commended for approaching Taiwanese cuisine across the archipelago with Japanese precision.

Seoul’s dominance is reflected in Mingles (No 4), awarded the best restaurant in South Korea for its distinctive, modern Korean cuisine, while Onjium (No 14) is commended for its continued commitment to researching and refining Korean food culture. Son Jong-won’s Eatanic Garden (No 26) is awarded for its continued excellence, while Bium (No 43) and its 1,000-year-old Korean temple-inspired cuisine earns the restaurant a well-deserved spot on the list.

Mainland China also sees strong representation on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list in Shanghai and Hangzhou. Shanghai’s Meet the Bund (No 6) is named the best restaurant in Mainland China for its menu of innovative dishes rooted in traditional techniques and recipes. Jason Liu’s Ling Long (No 9) is awarded for its unwavering commitment to the concept of xian (freshness), while 102 House (No 29) is recognised for its innovative approach to traditional Cantonese banquet cuisine. Over in Hangzhou, Ru Yuan (No 10) debuts on the list with its modern Hangzhou (Zhejiang) cuisine.

India contributes two entries to the top 50, leading with Masque (No 15), which is also awarded the best restaurant in India and the Art of Hospitality Award. Also on the list is Naar (No 30), a destination restaurant nestled deep in the Indian Himalayas, led by Prateek Sadhu.

Further individual recognitions on the Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants list include the One to Watch Award, given to Restaurant San in Seoul for its continued culinary excellence and attention to detail. Ardika Dwitama of August, Jakarta (No 42) is honoured with the Asia’s Best Pastry Chef accolade, recognising his unique approach to the art of pastry.
