The Brasserie at The St Regis Kuala Lumpur brings back its Malaysiaku menu for the fourth year in a row. Titled Malaysiaku: Culinary Tales of Folklore and Fables, the immersive culinary experience takes inspiration from 14 states, incorporating local ingredients, techniques, and fables distinct to each area.

LI Restaurant brings back nostalgic local favourites from August 15 to September 17, 2023. The specials celebrate Malaysia’s rich heritage, from the classic beef rendang and ulam rice to gado gado slaw and even a kaya semifreddo. If you’re finding it hard to pick, the Merdeka Set allows guests to try all four, best savoured with the house made Kelapa Rum cocktail.

From August 26 to September 30, 2023, Mandarin Oriental presents a unique collaboration with My Burger Lab for Merdeka. Available as part of the special menu are four burgers: The Mala Nashville Fried Chicken Burger, The Burger Daging Berlado, The Lamb & Mint, and The Water Balloon Burger, the latter of which features an Australian beef patty sandwiched with grilled watermelon, lychee, and a charcoal bun.

Titled Merdeka Munchies, The Chow Kit presents a sweet and savoury afternoon tea spread in collaboration with Tao Bakes Cakes, the home baker behind popular cake shop Plump. From The Chow Kit on August 27, 2023, will be traditional fare such as roti jala with chicken, followed by a dessert buffet by Tao Bakes Cakes.

Look forward to Kloe Hotel’s mini festival on August 26, 2023, celebrating Merdeka. Expect local desserts courtesy of soy speciality store Dao Desserts, spicy sambal from Sambal Enak, and fun and games from other homegrown vendors.

Two Merdeka specials are available at Black Tap Craft Burgers & Shakes from August 25 until September 16, 2023. The Nasi Lemak Chicken Sandwich has crispy chicken thigh, a fried egg, and sambal aioli. Pair it with the Jalur Gemilang CrazyShake, a milkshake that incorporates gula Melaka, coconut flakes, and vanilla cream cake, for a proper celebration.
