Then & Now: Style Through the Decades is a retrospective of iconic portraiture from Tatler's and Landmark's photography archives, featuring images of the city’s most stylish men and women

Tatler Asia is celebrating its 45th anniversary in Hong Kong this year, and is marking the occasion by partnering with Landmark to host a first-of-its-kind exhibition at the Landmark Atrium. Then & Now: Style Through the Decades is a retrospective of iconic portraiture from Tatler's and Landmark's photography archives, featuring images of the city’s most stylish men and women, and the Tatler community came out en masse for the grand reveal on October 14.

Friends and previous cover stars Wesley Ng, Adrienne HuiMing Ho-Tang and countless other fashionistas, many of whom made this year’s Asia’s Most Stylish list, were present to toast the occasion and reflect on their relationships with institutions of the luxury realm.

The beauty of the evening lay in attendees’ diverse and distinctive expressions of style: Emily Lam-Ho arrived in Valentino, Victoria Tang-Owen in a yellow Sacai number, and Antonia Li in Louis Vuitton. Trend-setter Artem Ansheles stole the show with jet black eyeliner, a Thierry Mugler body suit and an oversized Balenciaga T-shirt.

Crowds grew around the exhibition space eager to see which celebrities would make their way inside the VIP area. Special appearances by Hilary Fan, Elva Ni, Ashley Lin and September cover star Beatrice Ho (who flew in from the US for the occasion) drew a flurry of photography from paparazzi.

The biggest cheers were drawn by October cover star Tyson Yoshi, who appeared dressed in Gucci and Bottega Veneta to walk through the exhibition with his entourage, pose for photos with fans, and wish Tatler a happy 45th anniversary for the cameras. Guests including Feiping Chang and Peter Cheung were taken on private tours of the space by Tatler’s regional managing director, Sean Fitzpatrick, whose relationship with Tatler dates back 20 years, and who narrated the journey with insider stories about each of the photos on display.

For many, the evening was a trip down memory lane, as photos spanned from 1980 to the present day. Eleanor Lam posed alongside her first photo shoot with Tatler in 2016; Benedict Ku and Jaime Ho Ku brought their daughters Briar and Annella to see their 2010 cover shoot; Michelle Cheng-Chan remarked that her 2008 photos were taken long before her son Ashton was born; while Marisa Yiu’s photos marked a special time in her life, as they were taken while she was pregnant with her son.

Afterwards, the stylish set headed over to Café Landmark for drinks before heading off to their respective dinner plans—after all, stylish ensembles would be wasted at home on a Friday night.

Landmark and Tatler have been leading the conversation around style for generations, and the evening was a colourful journey through Hong Kong’s fashion history. As style has evolved, so too have major fashion brands that have stood the test of time. The exhibition, which is open until October 22, was a showcase of how brands like Bottega Veneta, Bvlgari, Cartier, Chanel, Chopard, Dior, Fendi, Gucci, Hermès, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Co. and Van Cleef & Arpels have been styled and brought to life on Tatler’s fashion pages over the years.

Above all, the event served as a confirmation of Hong Kong’s standing as one of the world’s premier destinations for fashion, as well as the strength of the Tatler and Landmark community in this grandiose showcase of style, creativity and glamour.
