See how Asian music acts rocked the Coachella stage in their boldest outfits for Weekend 2

Coachella 2022 will definitely go down in history for its stellar (and diverse!) line-up, but we likely won’t forget the outfits we saw anytime soon either.

For Weekend 2, our favourite Asian artists brought their A-game to the stage. We’re talking 88rising singer Niki in a killer leather ensemble, Japanese-American popstar Conan Gray sparkling in a sequin Valentino outfit and Japanese Breakfast’s Michelle Zauner looking like a pastel princess in a custom dress by an emerging fashion designer.

In terms of headliners, 2NE1 may have been the best surprise of Coachella during the first weekend, but festival-goers were treated to the US debut of another K-pop girl group on the second weekend: Aespa.

Below, see what the Next Level stars wore for their electric Coachella performance, and how else other acts of Asian descent dressed to impress over the weekend.

Aespa certainly held their own at their Coachella debut and their first-ever performance in the US. The rookie K-pop girl glittered in lavish corset tops, bodysuits and dresses adorned with crystals and pearls, each custom made by South Korean fashion label Dénicheur by Seo Seung Yeon. Fans will likely be reminded of the ornate aesthetic of Aespa’s looks for their Savage mini-album, which were also designed by Seo.

Proving Valentino designer Pierpaolo Piccioli’s point that sequins are very much for guys too, Japanese-American popstar brought a dose of disco magic to Coachella with yet another hot pink Valentino look comprising a high-neck tank top, bell bottoms and towering platforms.

3. Niki

Indonesian songstress Niki brought yet another edgy, dominatrix-inspired ensemble to the stage, this time in the form of a custom patent leather corset and shorts set by Lacey Dalimonte. Her Gentle Monster sunglasses and black nylon trench coat added a touch of The Matrix to her look, while her lace-up, knee-high boots completed the outfit.

After going viral last weekend for eating mango sticky rice on stage, Thai rapper Milli once again became a hot topic at Coachella for turning her set into an impromptu aerobics class. The 88rising artist worked out in a crop top and a pair of pink silk cargo pants created by Kate Broad.

6. Michelle Zauner of Japanese Breakfast

Indie-pop rockstar Michelle Zauner had another textured, pastel-hued outfit to wow the crowd with after last weekend’s Diesel knitwear look. The Japanese Breakfast frontwoman was pretty in pink in a lace smock dress by Central Saint Martins designer Joyce Bao, complete with puffed sleeves and a slit lined with ribbon ties.

7. Peggy Gou

The South Korean DJ brought the wild, wild West to the California desert with her Dion Lee denim vest and flared, lace-up jeans, which she stylishly paired with arm warmers.

The rockstars of Mongolian heavy metal band certainly pulled their weight in the style department as much as the musical one, sporting intricate, warrior-inspired leather pieces lined with studs, lacing, pleating, and fringed details.
