Two-Michelin-starred French restaurant Écriture—one of Tatler Dining's Top 20 restaurants in 2023—has abruptly closed its doors, a revelation announced by its executive chef, Maxime Gilbert, on Instagram. Nestled atop H Queen's, the restaurant was known for its innovative French cuisine which featured an ever-changing ‘Library of Flavours’ menu and a crowd-pleasing uni and caviar tart. While Gilbert conveyed his deep sorrow and noted the sudden unemployment of the restaurant’s staff, including Tatler Dining's Best Pastry Chef 2023, Cyrus Yan, in the social media post, a specific reason for the closure, decided by the parent group Le Comptoir, remains elusive. Diners and industry peers from across the world, including Vicky Lau in Hong Kong and Gaggan Anand in Thailand, sent messages of support with many expressing shock and sharing cherished memories of dining at the restaurant. Despite the uncertainty, the restaurant's website continues to promote an upcoming dinner event until September 30.

Motorino marks a decade of dishing out pizza this September with celebratory events. On Friday, September 22, guests can sample a retrospective sharing menu titled Tanti Auguri, Motorino (meaning best wishes, Motorino) for HK$388. This feast recalls classics including the Polpette al Sugo (braised meatballs doused in tomato sauce) and shrimp scampi, while also showcasing timeless pizzas like the Margherita and Soppressata Piccante, cooked to perfection in Stefano Ferrara ovens.

The revelry doesn't end there; Motorino is also hosting its inaugural Pizza Bake-Off Showdown on Saturday, September 23 from 2pm to 5pm. For HK$428, attendees can craft their own pizza while enjoying free-flow house wines, prosecco, and beer. The standout pizza, judged by head chef Roberta de Sario will feature on Motorino's October menu. We're unsure why, but pineapple on the pizza is not allowed.
