Dishes that feel both elevated and familiar, exciting and comforting. Whether you are after a long lunch, a romantic dinner, or a buzzy weekend gathering, these Bangsar favourites deliver big on flavour, style and personality.

For creative, artisanal, and unfussy dishes in an intimate setting that feels just right, Alta Cafe is a go-to, by the team that brought you Sitka and Studio Restaurant. Inspired by minimalist cafes in Paris, London, and Copenhagen, the food served here is simple, made from scratch with local and market ingredients, and served in a relaxed and welcoming café space. While the menu changes seasonally, a crowd favourite is the Alta Burger, which is perfectly indulgent. Try also the rigatoni with white ragu and the green goddess salad.

Must Try

  • Slipper Lobster, pucuk manis, laksa sauce
  • Sweet corn, shio kombu, citrus sauce
  • Smores

Ignis means fire in Latin, and the restaurant stays true to its name with well-executed plates touched with a lick of the flame. For grill-focused dining, Ignis KL is one of the best in town, as the team manages to achieve char and smoke in each dish, made with quality produce that is often sourced from Malaysian farms. The space is comfortable yet elegant, without pretence, and signature dishes include the beef ribs claypot rice, the smoked honey corn with parmesan and shio kombu, and the giant squid with burnt peppers purée and balsamic glaze.

With timeless and mature cooking, there is no restaurant like Studio Restaurant in Kuala Lumpur. Few can execute dishes as seasoned chef-owner Christian Recomio does, while co-owner Jenifer Kuah runs the floor with grace. The contemporary tasting menu draws inspiration from travel, with Malaysian and Scottish ingredients treated with a European sensibility, showing that local gourmands need not travel to find delectable global cuisine. The restaurant’s small but intimate interior, featuring dark wood and clean lines, is an amalgamation of the owners’ favourite restaurant design and features from their favourite cities of Barcelona, London, and Copenhagen. The team is always ready to provide pairing suggestions from a focused selection of natural wines.
