Home tour: A quiet luxury home by the peaceful waters of the Hamptons

Tami Wassong Interiors crafted a sophisticated yet relaxed holiday home for a family that values tranquillity

Out in the Hamptons, some 140 kilometres from the vibrant Big Apple, the charming hamlet of Hampton Bays is where Jennifer and David found the perfect home to accommodate their two adult children and pet dog.

“The day they found the property, they heard the song Buy Dirt by Jordan Davis and knew that this was how all their dreams would come true,” remembers Tami Wassong, dear friend to Jennifer and David and their interior designer. “It was a sign. They have the lyrics framed in their entryway hallway as a reminder that dreams can come true.”

The 4,500 sq ft home has two floors, six bedrooms, five-and-a-half baths, and a 3,300 sq ft pool deck. With access to the surrounding nature and the Long Island waters, the couple spends time here and at their primary residence in Westchester all year round, with the children who live in New York City making frequent weekend trips out east.

“While the family values tranquillity, they like to entertain extended family and friends from time to time,” Wassong adds. “Cooking is a big part of their social life, which extends to celebrity chefs in residence on several occasions.”

The Hamptons sanctuary is light-filled and airier, unlike the Westchester home, which Wassong also designed for Jennifer and David, anchored by richer wood tones and leather and gold accents. While restrained, the light and warm colour palette is warm, luxurious and approachable.

“The interior that is considered neutral does not lack colour at all, as it is peppered with the homeowners’ favourite colours of soft grey and blue, harmonising with its picturesque surroundings,” explains the New York-based interior designer, who also adds that the minimalist space makes it easy for the homeowners to add art as time goes by.

Through the glass doors and transom windows, ample natural light pours into the open-concept first floor, including the living, dining and kitchen areas, decorated with custom soft furnishings with unexpected angles and organic shapes.

The bathrooms display an artistic interplay of natural stone–travertine, limestone, marble and natural quartzite, and subdue accents from the light and bathroom fittings.

The fusion of classic and contemporary elements continues to reflect beautifully in the quiet luxury bedrooms while “everything is designed, but I don’t like it to feel that way,” Wassong chimes in.

“Peace on the bay,” Wassong concludes. “The moment Jennifer and David wake up in the primary bedroom and see the view out to the water, it brings them peace to start and end their day.”
