Patrick Chin of Pride Studio explains how to curate a dramatic dining room

Patrick Chin muses: “Besides where we eat our daily meals, today’s dining room has also become a space for social gathering. To make it a compelling destination, a dramatic dining space should provoke intrigue and strike conversation among guests.”

The director of Interior Design and founder of Pride Studio recommends establishing mood lighting and then utilising colour and texture throughout the room.

Focus pieces like the dining table and chairs should anchor the space before adding statement pieces such as pendant lights and curating unique artwork.

“For maximum effect, I recommend mixing and matching cross-culture objects for a modern approach,” opines Chin. “I would also incorporate some of the client’s sentimental objects to inject the client’s personality.”

Finally, for a sensorily immersive dining experience, Chin believes in engaging all the senses, including smell and sound.

There’s no rule that you need to stick to only one type of dining chair.

To this end, Chin recommends mixing the elegantly upholstered Malt and irresistibly curvy Brezel, both from Gebruder Thonet Vienna from Space Furniture, for maximum effect. “These chairs add a little quirkiness without being too formal,” states the designer.
