Welcome to Foodie Finds! This is an article series by Tatler, chronicling where and what to order according to the food-obsessed

I myself have never understood non-foodies. How can one not love flavours, spices, aromas and all the cultural nuances and memories that come with every bite? Dining is an experience meant to be savoured and is even more fun when shared with loved ones. Dining around a table means sharing, conversing, bonding and learning.

A dish can tell you so much about a person, a culture, and a country. It speaks volumes of a nation's history and is an art form on its own. Skilled hands are trained over years or are born out of pure passion and practice. Professional chefs and home cooks alike, from young stars to grandmothers, have been cooking up meals filled with emotion and have truly made us foodies, happy.

Through Foodie Finds, we ask our epicurean friends to share their favourites. In this feature, we tackle takeout and delivery. Hear what designer, entrepreneur, and founder of Kaayo, Marga Nograles has to say. Take a look at some of her go-to shops for takeout.

1. Van's Kitchen

@vanskitchenph

For me, these guys have the best homemade Hainanese chicken rice!  The chicken, rice, and soup are all cooked to perfection with more than enough sauce servings of ginger garlic, sweet soy, and sambal chilli–no need to ask for extra sauce!

They started the business because they love to eat, and got tired of having the same food over and over again. Since their chicken rice was a hit, clients and friends kept asking them to experiment, and thus they made authentic bak kut teh and drunken chicken too–both are also winners.

For the holidays they just sent me homemade XO sauce that we also super enjoyed.

2. Polaris Fine Foods

@polarisfinefoods

Since the start of the pandemic and since we couldn’t really travel, Polaris Fine Foods was and still is my go-to for the freshest air-flown and local sashimi, and rare labels mostly from Japan, plus some other countries as well.

Their inventive and eye-catching sushi creations are visual poetry and are a delight to enjoy and receive. Must-tries and bestsellers include their sushi bento and wooden boxes. I also love their frozen hamachi jaw and pigeon. They are near my house so every time I want something special I send my driver to get whatever fresh delivery they have.

3. Snackie Snack

For the best caviar pie in town! It's simple, hits the spot, and has the most generous serving of caviar.

My aunt sent me really good roast beef and I remember telling her it was the best I had ever tried. . . to my surprise, she told me that she got it in Unimart Capitol Commons from the roast beef counter.

5. Vito's BBQ

@vitosbbq

I love how these guys decided to share their family’s secret recipe during the pandemic and set up Vito’s BBQ – named after their four-year-old son.

I have a few favourites from them, like their chicken BBQ and pufflabok crispy noodles. The pufflabok comes with a chicken and seafood-based sauce topped with premium scallops, shrimps, eggs and spring onions and is available in original and black squid ink; both are so yummy!

But the winner is their Trex BBQ: 36-hour slow-cooked USDA beef ribs grilled to perfection complimented with two signature sauces – Texas BBQ style, and their house gravy. The best!

6. Papa Doods Deli

My kids and I love their low sodium smoked bacon and beef brisket.
