New menus, anniversaries, and guest shifts set the dining scene alight this week

This is the week for indulgence. Whether you’re into classic steaks or pristine Japanese gastronomy, or Catalan lamb to hedonistic guest shifts, there’s something for everyone in the dining scene this week.

Start the week at Restaurant Gaig, where the glories of lamb are enshrined in its new Chef’s Menu paying homage to Catalonia’s bold and vibrant culinary heritage. A new menu also awaits you at Skai, which has welcomed executive chef Seumas Smith to curate a new à la carte menu inspired by Japanese culinary tradition. For something truly special, Nobu is celebrating its first anniversary in Singapore with an exclusive omakase menu in collaboration with chefs Dani García and Jorge Martin.

To end off the week with a bang, head down to MF Bar by Burger & Lobster, where Kuala Lumpur’s acclaimed rum bar Junglebird will be spending its last night in its bar takeover. If you’re worried about getting a hangover, don’t—the free-flow ribeye steak at Bochinche on Saturdays will cure any hangover with its generous servings and tender meat.

Under executive chef Marti Carlos Martinez, Restaurant Gaig offers an immersive Catalan culinary experience with its new Chef’s Menu, paying homage to Catalonia's vibrant heritage and flavoUrs. The menu takes diners on a captivating journey through Catalonia, showcasing the region’s staple ingredient—lamb—with finesse and creativity. With a nose-to-tail approach, the glazed sweetbreads and artichoke dish showcases the creamy lamb sweetbread complemented by seasonal harvests, while the lamb rack with Idiazábal cheese sauce elevates the roasted lamb rack with the distinctive smokiness of the farmhouse sheep cheese. Another delightful option is the Frit Menorquí, featuring pan-seared Boston lobster tail, purple potato chips, tomato bread, and a lobster-jus infused yolk.

2. Nobu

Famed Japanese restaurant Nobu is celebrating its first anniversary in Singapore, and its celebration is nothing short of spectacular. From May 31 to June 1, Singapore executive chef Hideki Maeda will be collaborating with chef Dani García (Smoked Room, two Michelin stars) and chef Jorge Martín (chief culinary officer of Grupo Dani García) to deliver an eclectic eight-course omakase menu that will feature Nobu favourites and exciting new creations with Andalusian flair. Take the miso-marinated Iberico pork by García, which blends premium pork with umami Japanese ingredients. It rubs shoulders with Maeda’s Chilean seabass, served with yuzu shio (salt) koji, a cooked grain with fermentation culture that uplifts up the already-light seabass with a bright acidity.

Feast in the skies at Skai, which has welcomed executive chef Seumas Smith to the kitchen. Smith, who has spent time in Michelin-starred restaurants like Heston Blumenthal’s Dinner in London, has crafted a new à la carte menu inspired by the quality of Japanese produce and the precision of Japanese culinary tradition.

There are luxurious snacks you can’t miss here like the aged Kaluga hybrid N25 caviar, particularly embraced by Smith for its texture and flavour, served with crème cru and blinis pancakes. The grill takes centre stage at Skai, manifesting in expertly grilled steaks like the Westholme Wagyu prime rib or the Mackas ribeye, served with traditional sauces like a béarnaise, red wine jus, peppercorn, or salsa verde. Lest you think the vegetables aren’t as interesting as the meats, try Smith’s signature barbecue cauliflower, served with confit Japanese leeks, garlic-infused miso, and fresh Japanese spring onions for a powerful allium punch.s
