1. Café Natsu

Tatler Asia

Café Natsu is the latest brainchild of chef Lewis Barker, who also helms one-Michelin-starred restaurant Sommer. This quaint cafe in Joo Chiat offers western staples with a Japanese twist, and the must-try is the Wagyu beef short rib sando. An elevated take on your classic sarnie, it comprises juicy short ribs roasted over binchotan until it’s tender and juicy. The sandwich comes together with a swipe of yuzukosho mayo and shishito pepper ketchup. Other standouts are the smoked salmon confit on a bed of fragrant Japanese rice, and eggs benedict elevated with an umami-filled miso hollandaise.

3. Kura Patisserie Singapore

This patisserie has reopened along South Bridge Road, but it offers the same delectable French pastries created with Japanese techniques we’ve grown to love. Keep your eyes out for its signature bakes, among which are the La Vie en Rose and mango basil mousse. The former is an indulgent tart topped with sea salt chocolate, sea salt number and dark chocolate cream piped in a shape of a rose. The latter is a new addition that delights with its fresh mango cubes atop refreshing mango mousse. It’s garnished with lime zest and basil Chantilly cream for extra indulgence. For something savoury, the Japanese beef curry toast is topped with house greens, mozzarella cheese and umami-rich beef curry.
