Welcome the Festival of Lights with these sweet confections made by some of the island’s notable chefs
Deepavali is the Indian Festival of Lights that symbolises ‘victory’ of light over darkness. This period is a time filled with religious rituals, spending time with loved ones, and of course, feasting.
This year, the festival begins on October 24, and what better way to start off this celebration than by savouring Indian confectioneries or mithais? Often made with fresh milk, nuts and spices, these sweet treats are usually consumed during auspicious occasions, including birthdays, anniversaries and festivals.

While mithais are available throughout the year, various chefs across the island have introduced boxes exclusively available for the festive period. Here are some of our favourites.
1. Adda
This Neo-Indian restaurant is celebrating Diwali with a selection of limited-edition artisanal sweets that marry traditional tastes with local flavours. Look forward to chef-owner Manjunath Mural’s creations like the gula Melaka and coconut, and the berry and macadamia. Inspired by the beloved local ondeh ondeh kueh, the former is a nutty roll flavoured with sweet gula Melaka and topped with coconut shavings. The latter is a fruity treat, featuring a blend of organic berries, macadamia and cinnamon. It’s coated in crushed hazelnut for added texture in each bite. Available from now until October 26.
