The Indian stalwart takes sumptuous, centuries-old gourmet delicacies and serves them up in a royal dining experience

Established in 1997, Shahi Maharani remains one of the most well-loved Indian restaurants in Singapore. That’s not surprising given its extensive selection of Indian dishes, which can be enjoyed by meat eaters and vegetarians alike. Most of its recipes have been passed down by royal chefs, ensuring cuisine that is as authentic as it gets. Take the tawa jheenga, for example. Plump and fresh tiger prawns are imbued with a secret blend of Indian spices and finished over an iron griddle, resulting in a succulent and flavourful meat. A classic dish from Goa is the mutton vindaloo, and it is a decadent serving of tender lamb chunks bathed in a tangy and spicy vindaloo sauce. While some dishes are extremely spicy, diners who can’t take the heat can request for toned-down versions. They can also ask the extremely knowledgeable staff for the ideal drink to complement their orders. The restaurant has a good selection of wines—some of which come from India—beers, cocktails and mocktails.
