With Ramadan and Easter on our radar, April is set to be a fun one

March went by in a flash and once again, we are preparing for a new month with events, celebrations and more. 

April is set to be an exciting one with Ramadan starting on April 3, Easter on April 17 and a host of activities and events to celebrate not just these two occasions but also our ever-evolving arts and culture scene.

1. Baroque House Bourbon Tasting Private Dinner

What: Delve into the history of Rowell Road at the rejuvenated Baroque House, a 102-year-old conservation shophouse. Designed to preserve its incredible heritage, the space reveals its secrets progressively through your journey.

While owner Sonia Ong has curated an array of artistic experiences, we recommend the bourbon tasting private dinner, where you can indulge in a three-course omakase (catering to all dietary requirements) and a tasting of three bourbons, including Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Maker’s Mark 46.

2. (Re)births by Alliance Française de Singapour

What: It has been three years since a fire partially ravaged the Cathedrale Notre-Dame de Paris and in honour of this, Alliance Française de Singapour will be launching a spectacular exhibition on the construction and successive restorations of one of the most iconic symbols of France throughout the centuries. 

The exhibition will be accompanied by a series of talks, film screenings and workshops.

3. Coach's Bagel Shop Popup

What: This month, Coach is collaborating with local bagel joint Two Men Bagel House for a popup that will feature a limited edition menu created by Two Men Bagel House, exclusive co-branded merchandise and bags that can be customised with bespoke Coach graffiti motifs by local artist Tiffany Lovage.

4. Geylang Serai's Ramadan Bazaar

What: Singapore’s beloved Ramadan bazaars have finally returned after two years of being cancelled or taken online due to the Covid-19 pandemic and Geylang Serai's Ramadan Bazaar is one you have to visit. If you want a guide to all the best food places to check out this year, click here.

5. Louis Vuitton’s 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries exhibition

What: The Louis Vuitton 200 Trunks 200 Visionaries exhibition is finally making its way to Singapore following its debut in France at the Louis Vuitton family house.

For the exhibition, the Maison invited talents and friends of the house to personalise its emblematic trunk and to have them on display. Some trunks to look out for are ones by BTS, Supreme, Peter Marino, Lego and more.

6. Singapore Repertory Theatre’s C-O-N-T-A-C-T

What: This month, Singapore Repertory Theatre (SRT) will be presenting C-O-N-T-A-C-T, a live theatre experience that allows members to use headphones and a mobile app to immerse themselves in a state-of-the-art 3D soundscape over the course of the 50-minute play.

7. Smash by White Space Art Asia

What: Smash is a multimedia exhibition about the end of a long-standing love affair between an artist and the world of porcelain that will be taking place at White Space Art Asia. Featuring local artist Yang Derong, Smash is set to be a visceral exploration of Yang’s five-year struggle with creating and story-telling through porcelain.

The exhibition will also see a series of NFTs along with a video featuring local musician Dick Lee.

8. Fools by Mr Lim’s Shop of Visual Treasures

What: If you are an art fanatic, you’ll want to check out Fools by Mr Lim’s Shop of Visual Treasures. Featuring artists such as Woon Tien Wei, Jennifer Teo, Yang Jie, Wen Chao, this exhibition aims at generating awareness and support for young, local artists and will see exclusive artwork that will only be available at the gallery.

9. T’ang Quartet’s 30th Anniversary Programme

What: Known as one of the most accomplished string quartets in Southeast Asia, Singapore’s T’ang Quartet will be marking its 30th anniversary with its first concert this year which will take place at Victoria Concert Hall. 

The ensemble will begin the celebration with a programme that goes back to their humble beginnings and fans of classical music certainly have a lot to look forward to.

10. Fernando Botero’s solo exhibition

What: This April, the Opera Gallery Singapore will be presenting contemporary Latin American artist Fernando Botero’s solo exhibition which will feature Botero’s paintings and sculptures. Be enchanted with Botero’s interpretation of mysterious places, people, objects and their moments of wonder in various forms.

11. Superfuture by Gajah Gallery

What: NFTs are the next big thing and they have cast a huge spotlight on the future of digital art. Alongside six artists from Singapore, Indonesia, and the United States, Gajah Gallery is launching its inaugural exhibit on NFT art to showcase artists who have long-employed digital methods to realise their artistic visions or who have just started delving into the art of it all.

12. Super Loco Group’s collaboration with Fable Food

What: This month, Mexican restaurant Super Loco is teaming up with Australian plant-based food brand Fable Food to create a cleaner way of eating and drinking.

In the restaurant’s first-ever Loco Earth Month. Guests can enjoy a brand new Earth Month menu which features its Fable Al Pastor Tacos, a plant-based take on the traditional al pastor featuring Fable’s slow-braised mushroom meat, crispy spinach herb tortillas filled with quinoa and Mexican truffle and more.

13. ‘You Won’t Believe It’s Trash’ exhibition

What: We are always told to recycle and reuse our items but Mr Simon Tan takes it to another level by giving discarded items such as cardboard boxes, broom heads and other materials a new lease of life and turning them into movie props and models at his first-ever public artwork exhibition.

When: March 25 to May 18

14. WWF Singapore’s AR-mazing Tiger Trail 2022

What: If you have kids or would just like an opportunity to get some good Instagram photos in, this one is for you. The World Wide Fund for Nature Singapore (WWF Singapore) will be launching an island-wide trail that showcases 33 life-sized tiger art sculptures in a bid to raise awareness for the conservatorship of these creatures. 

The trail aims at inspiring Singaporeans and communities around the region to learn more about how individual actions contribute to biological diversity.

It certainly beats the long trip to see the tigers at the Singapore Zoo in Mandai.

15. Breast Cancer Foundation’s 8th Tee for Pink Charity Golf Tournament

What: Next month, get ready because golf enthusiasts will be teeing off at Tanah Merah Country Club in support of the Breast Cancer Foundation (BCF) at its 8th Tee for Pink Charity Golf tournament.  

Donations can be made here or by cheque (crossed out to 'Breast Cancer Foundation'). You just need to indicate 'Charity Golf' on the back of the cheque. Contributions of $50 and above are eligible for a tax deduction of two and a half times the donation value.

All donations will go towards forwarding BCF’s mission through programmes and support services for the breast cancer community locally.
