Tuck into a lavish iftar meal at these dining establishments with Ramadan buffets and set menus

Our Muslim friends will be celebrating Ramadan soon, and the island’s top chefs are working hard to serve up delectable iftar meals to break their fast. There are a lot of options to choose from, including local and international fare, progressive Nusantara cuisine and Italian pastas and pizzas. Here are the best dining places to book now.

When the sun goes down, chef de cuisine Leon Yee and his team prepare a tantalising feast of elevated local favourites. Dig into the Black Angus beef short rib satay, which has a more tender texture and pronounced beefy flavours; fall-off-the-bone Australian baby lamb shank rendang; and grilled octopus finished with Urban Farm calamansi and sambal.

The restaurant’s iftar buffet spread is a collection of Malay, Chinese, Indian and Middle Eastern dishes, served at the halal-certified show kitchens. Bring an appetite and get started with mouth-watering appetisers of rojak and gado gado—both are doused in a crunchy peanut sauce—before indulging in delectable mains.

At the Malay kitchen, you have the ikan lemak, a spicy dish of locally sourced barramundi steeped in rich coconut cream; and betis kambing berempah, or slow-braised Australian lamb shank served with fragrant nut rice and spices. Elsewhere at the barbecue station, you will get your fill of perfectly roasted Spencer Gulf prawns and Australian lamb marinated with chilli, shrimp paste and pineapple juice.

Finish off with a range of local desserts. Apart from the Middle Eastern offerings of baklava and basbousa (semolina cake), there are popular local favourites such as pandan kaya cake, pulut hitam and fried durian balls.

The buffet restaurant offers dine-in and takeaway menus, best enjoyed with your loved ones during the Ramadan period. Enjoy the iftar meal at the restaurant and tuck into sumptuous dishes which include the Ginger “Ramly” Burger; beef cheek masak merah, beef cheek cooked with tomatoes and dried chillies; and crab lemak nenas, Indonesian mud crab in a spicy coconut gravy studded with pineapples.  

Order the Ramadan Takeaway Set menu—big enough for five diners—and feast on dishes like the beef cheek masak merah, and the crusted salmon with serunding. The set comes with your choice of coconut blue pea rice or fragrant rice, as well as the creamy bubur cha cha and the decadent D24 durian cream puff for dessert.

4. Kintamani Indonesian Restaurant

Feast to your heart’s content at this halal-certified buffet specialising in tasty Indonesian eats. But first, whet the appetite with seafood delights such as mussels with fermented beans (kerang masak tauco) and cereal prawns (udang bijirin), before moving on to the all-time favourites.

There is quite a selection to choose from, but we recommend the fork-tender beef simmered in coconut and spices (rendang daging sapi), crispy fried chicken enhanced with fiery homemade sambal (ayam geprek); and vegetables in coconut gravy (sayur lodeh).

Make sure you have space for the roasted leg of lamb which comes with an assortment of homemade sauces, and grilled fish at the carving station.

Culinary director Mel Dean makes sure that you are well fed during the Ramadan period with his Nusantara iftar menu. Get started with the sweet and floral bandung rose mocktail laced with lychee fruits before digging into his new and signature creations.

Exclusively created for this period are the nasi opor cakerawala, oppor rice ball with sambal hijau and rice crackers; satay madura, chicken satay served with a spicy-creamy peanut sauce; and rendang rusuk minangkabau, New Zealand braised ribs steeped in a medley of herbs and spices.

Dessert comes in the form of kolak pisang. Hailing from Indonesia, the sweet treat combines the well-loved flavours of banana, coconut milk and palm sugar.

If you feel like indulging in pastas and pizzas for your iftar meal, then head to the halal-certified Picante Pronto at the Cluny Food Court. Chef Fadzil Bin Mohd Alip offers affordable Italian fare where you’ll be able to savour dishes such as the Suprema Pizza topped with chicken sausage, shiitake mushrooms, red chilli padi; and mushroom alfredo, comprising al dente fusilli tossed in a creamy sauteed mushroom sauce and finished with white truffle sauce, grated parmesan and an egg in the middle. The dishes are part of the stall’s a la carte menu. Walk-ins only.

The buffet restaurant’s ‘Selera Iftar’ (tastes of iftar) is a showcase of over 40 local and international dishes spanning Malay, Arabic and Western cuisines. Popular favourites are included, so get started on the grilled chicken satay served with peanut sauce and the extremely flavourful beef rendang with a spicy kick.

And when you need to indulge a bit more, you can with local and western favourites— including the Singapore chilli crab with a decadent tomato sauce you can mop up with the deep-fried mantou; and roasted lamb which is enhanced with black pepper sauce. To end, you can satisfy your sugar cravings with the pengat pisang with bean soup, assorted kuehs and fluffy pandan chiffon cake.
