The rising British actress is making waves off screen with her vibrant style. Here, we dissect how the Bridgerton star pulls off bright, bold colours with panache

Although you may be used to seeing her in demure dresses coloured in pastels and other subdued hues, Bridgerton star Simone Ashley is a lot bolder with her style choices outside of the Netflix series.

For the unacquainted, Ashley is the rising British-Indian actress that’s been on our radars for starring in buzzy TV shows like Sex Education and Bridgerton. In the latter’s second season, she plays the lead damsel Kate Sharma, who’s bent on getting her younger sister Edwina married to a good man—and whose plans are interfered by Lord Anthony Bridgerton.

While she stuns with her acting chops on screen, Ashley has also managed to command attention on the red carpet and at Fashion Week with her vibrant outfits. The actress has clearly nailed the art of dopamine dressing—that is, wearing clothes in bright, joyful colours as an attempt to uplift our moods and give us a boost in confidence amidst out turbulent times.

If you haven’t dipped your toes into the 2022 trend, let Ashley show you how to pull off highlighter hues and exuberant shades below.

1. Nailing the Neon Look

At this year's BAFTAs, Ashley literally stood out at the red carpet with a fuchsia jumpsuit from Valentino's Fall/Winter 2022 collection. The hot pink shade was a leitmotif of the monochromatic collection, chosen by Valentino designer Pierpaolo Piccioli to bring out the details of each design. Ashley's look, for example, played with sheer layers and striking shapes (see the unique cut of her bra top). For jewellery, Ashley passed on wearing coloured gemstones—which would have looked garish against her already neon-bright ensemble—and instead opted for sparkling diamond earrings and a diamond bracelet from Tiffany & Co.

2. Pretty in Purple

At the BAFTAs after-party, Ashley kept up her streak of wearing striking outfits with this ruched top, miniskirt and oversized organza jacket—all in a stunning shade of purple. The colour, which proved popular on the red carpet last year, nicely complemented Ashley's glowing, deep brown skintone. To balance the exuberance of her look, the actress also opted to wear a Tiffany & Co. Bone Cuff, an elegant jewellery piece whose emphasis lies less on its shades than its sculptural form.

3. Head-to-Toe Tonal

Showcasing her mastery of the colour wheel, Ashley pulled off tonal dressing when attending the launch of Valentino Make Up last year. It's a styling trick that looks best on tailored looks, as there are plenty of pieces to work with. In Ashley's case, that meant a blazer, cropped trousers and block-heel sandals, all in pink; a mauve sultry top with a plunging neckline, and a pastel purple Valentino handbag.

4. Clashing Colours at Chanel

A daring, try-anything-once attitude lies at the heart of dopamine dressing, and Ashley demonstrated that she isn't afraid of take risks—even if that meant flaunting an unconventional colour palette. At the Chanel Spring/Summer 2022 show in Paris, the star appeared in a head-to-toe ensemble by the French luxury brand comprising a patterned, magenta turtleneck knit minidress and a mustard yellow cardigan with deep red accents. She played with even more colours in her makeup (see her shimmering green eyeshadow) and her nails, which was done up in blue. Because of the clashing hues, Ashley's outfit turned out fun, mirroring the light-hearted energy of Chanel's runway show that season.

5. Blending Blues at the Beach

If you thought that Ashley's love for colour was only for the camera, think again. The Bridgerton star previously shared a snap of her beach-ready ensemble for which she expertly paired her slit sarong skirt in turquoise with a matching bikini. The hue effectively played up the vibrance of her sun-kissed complexion—something to take note of the next time you hit the beach.
