Cover Looking good on the night of the Tatler Ball begins with preparation and we’re here with some fuss-free tips to help you look gala-ready

From SK-II to PHS Hairscience, here are key suggestions for a night when the cameras are never too far away at this year’s Tatler Ball

Looking good on the night of the Tatler Ball begins with preparation. The outfit may draw the first glance, but feeling at ease beneath it is what carries an evening.

Guests are encouraged to wear their best outfits, and the theme sets the dress code, so dressing to it is a large part of the occasion. While there isn’t any best dressed award, this does not stop our guests from going all out.

Dressing to the theme is one half of looking the part. Skin, hair and lips that look and feel their best are the other, and a well-prepared complexion makes the make-up and the outfit sit better. Feeling at ease in one’s own skin also shapes how an evening is enjoyed. With the Ball approaching, the suggestions below run from skin and scalp to lips.

A four-step ritual by SK-II

SK-II’s LXP Craftsmanship Series follows four steps. The LXP Essence is designed to hydrate and leave skin feeling silky smooth, and the LXP Serum targets firmness and elasticity. The LXP Eye Cream, formulated with Chrysanthemum Extract, cares for the delicate eye area. The rich yet lightweight LXP Cream is designed to seal in moisture and nourish the complexion overnight. At a pre-Ball masterclass at Tatler House on 29 September, SK-II trainer Kaslyn recommended gentle pressing and tapping motions when applying, particularly around the eyes. The collection holds SK-II's highest concentration of Pitera to date, the signature ingredient derived from a proprietary yeast fermentation process and rich in more than 50 micronutrients, including vitamins, minerals and amino acids. It is complemented by Gold Silk Sericin, derived from a rare species of silkworm that took more than seven years to breed.

With the Ball approaching, a cream that works from the first application earns its place, and the reinvented Dior Prestige La Crème provides an immediate effect that can be felt and measured, thanks to a new patented Micro-Filler technology. The Signature Rose gives it a smooth, luscious texture that evokes the delicate bloom of a rose petal. Texture Essentielle, silky and velvety, offers freshness and comfort, while the dense, enveloping Texture Riche provides intense nutrition for skin that needs more. In a clinical assessment of Texture Essentielle by a dermatologist on 30 women, skin looked four times younger after two months of use compared with one week.

Lightweight hydration by La Prairie

Above La Prairie’s Swiss Pristine collection is built to overcome “modern fatigue” that show on the skin

A long week shows on the skin, and La Prairie’s Swiss Pristine is built for that. It targets six visible signs of what La Prairie calls “modern fatigue”, the cumulative toll of travel, digital overload, an unsettled body clock, pollution and poor sleep: fine lines, enlarged pores, rough texture, loss of radiance, uneven tone and heightened redness. These are the concerns that make a complexion look tired before the make-up goes on. The serum, which La Prairie describes as the ultimate barrier repair serum, carries the full set of three ingredients: Swiss Glacial Minerals from the Valais Alps, HyPower LP52, designed to help skin adapt to stress, and the signature Exclusive Cellular Complex. It is the step to prioritise when adding just one product to an existing routine. The formulas are lightweight and fast-absorbing.

Make-up and lip care come together in Givenchy’s Le Rouge Satin Silk and Le Rouge Hydra Balm, the second chapter of the Le Rouge reinvention after Le Rouge Velvet Matte in 2025. Le Rouge Satin Silk gives a radiant satin finish in a wardrobe of 19 highly luminous shades, from natural pinks and nudes to deeper, more contrasted tones. They include N05 George 5, a warm almond nude, and P227 Pink Silhouette, a vibrant deep rose.

Le Rouge Hydra Balm comes in two shades: a black one that reacts to the lips' pH to enhance their natural colour, and a sheer natural white. Flaxseed oil contributes 24 hours of nourishment and comfort, based on a self-assessment by 30 subjects. A peptide and a ceramide, two ingredients that help support collagen and elastin production, contribute to visibly smoother, plumper-looking lips.
