Dior unveils Rouge Dior On Stage Matte and Ink Blur Matte, two new lip formulas built for 24-hour wear without compromising comfort

Matte lipsticks have always asked something of the wearer: colour, held in place, often at the cost of comfort. Dior’s new Rouge Dior On Stage mattes are built to close that gap. Developed under Dior Makeup’s creative and image director Peter Philips, the two formulas—one a stick, one liquid—share a single ambition, delivering 24-hour, no-transfer wear without the dryness commonly experienced in matte finishes.

Rouge Dior On Stage Matte uses double-phase technology, developed in Dior’s laboratories and inspired by liquid lipstick formulation. Two ordinarily incompatible textures sit within a single stick: an ultra-colour pigment phase that anchors pigment to the lips and a soft-focus powder phase that settles over it in a smoothing veil. The result is an intense matte finish with a velvety texture that Philips describes as a “magical veil” that blurs the lips without muting the colour.

The bullet itself is designed for precision, its rounded top following the cupid's bow and pointed tip defining the lower lip in a single stroke. The midnight-blue case features Rouge Dior’s silver cannage motif and reversed CD logo. In the new campaign, actress Jenna Ortega moves from the red carpet to an afterparty with her lip colour staying put the whole way through—from the bright camera flashes outside to the dim room within.

A liquid that blurs

As for Rouge Dior On Stage Ink Blur Matte, it begins with a liquid formula that offers a similar level of comfort. Blurring gels and a duo of long-wear polymers combine to bind colour to the lips while keeping the texture airy, creating what Dior calls a “cloudy-lip” effect. One swipe diffuses a soft veil of colour; while further layers intensify it for a fuller matte look. “You can intensify the colour by simply layering,” says Philips. “With every stroke you add, you intensify the depth of your shade.” The applicator has been built specifically for this format, its rounded reservoir and precise tip shaped to follow the natural contour of the lips, stem finished with the Dior name.

Both formulas apply the same skincare logic underneath the colour. Peony extract hydrates and helps plump the lips, while pomegranate flower extract adds softness and comfort, so long hours of wear do not leave them feeling dry or tight.
