The heads of Asia’s luxury car dealerships are changing the way consumers experience high-end vehicles with their customer-centric approach and by embracing the shift to electric vehicles

These leaders from the automotive industry on Asia’s Most Influential list are shaping the way people see and interact with high-end vehicles. As the heads of luxury car dealerships, they know that it's about more than just the car: it's about the experience. They understand the value of a customer-centric approach and thus work to provide only the most premium experience for clients, providing innovations that include the refurbishment of showroom spaces to complement the values of luxury car brands like Lamborghini, Bentley or Porsche, as well as the introduction of new technologies that allow for improved backend services.

Moreover, these car lovers are leading the charge to the future of mobility with their support of electric vehicles. Not only have they introduced e-vehicles such as the Tesla Roadster, Porsche Taycan, Audi e-tron and Lexus RZ 450e in their markets, but they have also invested in the necessary infrastructure and training that will further accelerate the adoption of more sustainable modes of transport.

In 2023 Benedicto Coyiuto, head of Audi Philippines and president of Bentley Manila, unveiled PGA Cars Studio, a lifestyle centre that redefines the customer experience in high-end automobile showrooms. The Studio hosts, apart from the dealership’s service centre and show space, a café, lounge and restaurant by famed Antonio’s of Tagaytay. The refurbished space, which can also be adapted for various needs such as events and exhibitions, creates a luxury ecosystem that parallels the premium brands in PGA Cars roster: Porsche, Audi, Lamborghini and Bentley.

The company is also laying the groundwork for the adoption of electric vehicles in the Philippines through its FutureNow programme. Launched in 2022 with a sizeable initial investment of PHP300 million, the project seeks to acquire the necessary infrastructure, including charging stations and equipment, for the future of mobility. Right now, PGA Cars offers several luxury e-vehicles, including the Porsche Taycan, the Audi e-tron series and the Bentley Flying Spur Hybrid.

Rudy Salim’s success in the world of supercars can be attributed to his business acumen. To establish Prestige Image Motorcars, he sold his Mercedes Benz, a gift from his parents, to start an online credit business, which, among other entrepreneurial endeavours, funded the high-end car dealership. Now, luxury car enthusiasts and speed demons in Indonesia turn to Salim for, say, a Rolls Royce Wraith, a McLaren 720S, a Lamborghini Urus S or a Ferarri 296. The Jakarta-based firm also has a strong lineup of electric vehicles, carrying the Tesla Model X, Y and 3. As well, the businessman reinforced the company’s commitment to e-vehicles, sharing that it is working to introduce the Tesla Roadster and Cybertruck to the country.

Salim takes a hands-on approach in his firm, appearing in front of the camera for Prestige Productions, the company’s YouTube channel that publishes a range of content, from reviews and features of supercars to variety shows with personalities. The social media-savvy businessman made a splash in June 2023 when he interviewed Putri Ariani, the singing sensation who, after wowing judges in her America’s Got Talent audition, received a Golden Buzzer from Simon Cowell. When Salim asked the 17-year-old singer about what she wanted to achieve in the next five years, she mentioned topping the music charts, winning a Grammy and buying a house, before hinting at her desire to own a luxury car. Not missing a beat, Salim said that her last wish may be achieved not in five years, but in the next five minutes.

A few years after Justin Su introduced Lexus to Taiwan, the premium car brand overtook rivals Mercedes Benz and BMW in the market. Since then, Su has continued to grow Lexus, as well as the Toyota and Hino brands, under the banner of Hotai Motor, the largest automobile company in Taiwan with more than 30 per cent market share. In September 2021, despite the pandemic, the company saw its strongest sales in 16 years with 41,133 units sold.

In the first half of 2023, Lexus sales soared to 16,946 units, an increase of 171.8 per cent versus the previous year. In June 2023 alone, Lexus ranked first in the luxury car market, with several of its models, including the NX series, becoming the leader in their respective classes. Continuing its winning streak, Hotai Motor was also honoured at the 2023 Taiwan Service Industry Awards for Lexus’ digital services. The Lexus Link intelligent vehicle system, for example, analyses driving data to create a personalised car health check report for owners. Building on its victories, Hotai promises to continue introducing innovations like Lexus’ first electric car, the RZ 450e, which arrived in Taiwan in May 2023.
