Justin Su, general manager of Hotai Motor, sees continuing growth in the post-pandemic era

Justin Su first joined Hotai, where his father was president, as a deputy manager whose responsibility was to watch cars be loaded and unloaded at the port. He also spent two years working for Toyota, whose management style he has adopted. Su’s first major task was to introduce Lexus to Taiwan, and in just a few years his Lexus team managed to overtake rivals Mercedes and BMW. In 2010, he was promoted to general manager.

Hotai, which was founded in 1947, is now the largest automobile distributor in Taiwan, with subsidiaries in car rental, auto insurance, auto financial services and auto parts. In 2019, Hotai became the largest car dealer in Taiwan, accounting for about 32.5 per cent of market share ahead of competition.

The month of September 2021 saw Hotai Motor’s most robust sales in 16 years, with 41,133 units sold. The surprising increase was spurred by the online shopping boom, as well as the stricter requirements on emission standards, which forced vehicle owners to retire older heavy-duty vehicles.

Su is not only an effective general manager, he is also a well-loved leader who does not hesitate to share profits and benefits with employees, contributing to Hotai’s healthy work culture.
