Amanda Strang to appear in a Hong Kong film

Chef and presenter Amanda Strang will star in a blockbuster movie which will be released in cinemas on July 5. Customs Frontline, a new action film produced by Emperor Film Productions, and directed and co-written by Herman Yau, will star Jacky Cheung, Nicholas Tse, Karena Lam and Cya Liu.  Hong Kong actor and director Francis Ng is also supposed to make a special appearance in the film, which revolves around the Customs and Excise Department of Hong Kong. Strang will play Dr Raw, an arms dealer and villain. “At first, I was reluctant to do the film,” she says. “I haven't been in a movie in a while, but the director chose me for this role and when he sent me the script, I just had to take it. I'm honoured that he approached me and I'm grateful to be part of this cast.” Watch Strang in action above.

In 2015, Tatler community member Denise Ho launched her sustainable fashion label, Knotti. In 2021, she launched Kitdo, a restyling accessory used to “re-envision pieces to create newness in clothes.” The tool offers chic solutions to restyle and reinvent existing wardrobe pieces. Now, Ho is back with a bang with Knoble, a creative agency dedicated to the world of purpose-driven brands.

“I’ve had the pleasure of meeting numerous founders who possess incredible missions and visions but may sometimes lack that creative touch," said Ho, who serves as Knoble’s founder and creative director. “Creativity goes beyond just making things visually appealing; a big part of it involves problem-solving, and that’s why I started Knoble, aiming to create a driving force behind positive change.” The agency will offer a range of services including content creation, social media planning and strategy.

As for why Ho chooses to name her brands with the letter K, it’s simple: “I love its brevity and the concept of experimenting with language and wordplay. I aim to continue using two-syllable words that begin with the letter K.” Watch this space.

Emily Lam-Ho and Kent Ho renew wedding vows in Palawan

Emily Lam-Ho and Kent Ho celebrated their ten-year wedding anniversary in Palawan on April 28. The couple, whose wedding was featured in Tatler a decade ago, now has two children. Guests including Anne Wang-Liu flew from Hong Kong to the Philippines to celebrate the couple—and what a celebration it was.

The couple renewed their vows at an intimate ceremony at sunset on the beach. “We decided to celebrate this special milestone with our closest and dearest,” Lam-Ho said on Instagram. “I am lucky enough to be married to my best friend and the love of my life and the best father of my children anyone could ask for. It was not all smooth sailing, with ups and downs, highs and lows. [In] sickness and in health, we were true to our words,” she said.

The bride wore a Nicole + Felicia gown and walked down the aisle with her brothers Lester and Lucas by her side. The venue was filled with thousands of  white floral arrangements by Filipino stylist and florist Gideon Hermosa. Later, a meal prepared by Asia’s Most Influential honouree, Chele Gonzalez, chef and owner of Gallery by Chele and Deli by Chele had guests in a trance. The renowned chef flew in from Manila to especially prepare the meal for the occasion.

Later, Lam-Ho surprised her hubby with a special rendition of the Coldplay hit Yellow. Lam-Ho learned to play the guitar in the lead-up to the wedding which stunned each guest, but none more than her unsuspecting husband. Afterwards, the couple danced the night away to smooth house tunes by the groom’s favourite DJ, DJ Vanetty, whom the couple arranged to fly in from Paris.

Tatler Asia’s Most Influential honouree, Lindsay Porter, has been awarded an OBE. As the founder of Southeast Asia Marine Mammal Research, which is better known as  Seamar; and the vice chair of the Scientific Committee and UK delegation to the International Whaling Commission, she is the world’s leading expert on Hong Kong's pink dolphins. She settled in Hong Kong in 1993, attempting to fill an important knowledge gap by studying the behaviour of these dolphins and researching how the construction of the then-new Hong Kong International Airport would affect their habitat. She intended just to stay for her PhD; she’s still here today. In 2023, Porter was awarded an Order of the British Empire by Princess Anne for her tireless services to marine life conservation. The official award ceremony took place on April 19.

When asked what some of her favourite memories of the day were, Porter said: “It was thrilling to have Princess Anne present me my award, particularly as I volunteer with Riding for the Disabled Association, of which she is an active supporter and the UK patron. I also loved being given a private tour of the rooms [that] James Bond [played by Daniel Craig] entered when he escorted the Queen to the helicopter pad that ‘dropped her’ to the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. It was a fabulous day!” Congratulations, Lindsay!
