Ivan Pun launches Weizza gin, a tribute to Myanmar’s natural environment

Ivan Pun is at the forefront of Myanmar’s cultural revitalisation. Pun has spearheaded Port Autonomy, a modern take on the traditional beer hall with a uniquely Burmese twist, and TS1, an innovative arts initiative that serves as a platform for contemporary and traditional craftsmen, as well as his eco-conscious furniture line, Paribawga. Pun and the brands’ co-founder JR Ching now venture into spirits with Weizza gin. Weizza gin will be unveiled during Art Week from March 18-29 at The Lawn at The Upper House, which will be transformed into the Weizza House Lounge, operating daily from 5 pm to 11 pm.

The Weizza House Lounge will offer a curated selection of cocktails inspired by the brand’s unique blend of botanicals, complemented by a menu of snacks that pay homage to the rich flavours of Yangon. Under the direction of master distiller Raphael Holzer, each bottle is a careful blend of Myanmar’s botanicals. The brand’s invitation-online launch party will take place on March 29, and with a social network like Pun’s we can only imagine the A-list crowd it is going to attract.

As the largest art museum in the western United States with a collection of more than 149,000 objects that highlight 6,000 years of artistic expression across the globe, Los Angeles County Museum of Art—or LACMA as it’s better known—has made a name for itself in Hong Kong with its unforgettable events and experiences during Art Basel. Previous editions of its famed parties have been hosted at cultural and historic sites of Hong Kong, including the Harilela Mansion in 2017, Jumbo Kingdom in 2018 and The Mills in 2019 and K11 Atelier in 2023. To celebrate the Year of the Dragon, this year’s party is called Dragon Icons, hosted by Princess Alia Al-Senussi and Dino Sadhwani, and it will be held at Dragon-i, the legendary fashion and culture hotspot founded by Gilbert Yeung. The event is in partnership with K11 and will honour LACMA and the UCCA [Center for Contemporary Art in Beijing].

This year’s event is extra special, though, as it is in collaboration with homegrown brand, Shanghai Tang. Shanghai Tang’s director of arts, culture and heritage, as well as Tatler Asia’s Most Influential honouree Victoria Tang-Owen says: “Shanghai Tang is the official partner for the event and I drive the collaboration opportunities, particularly where arts related initiatives are involved. Given we have entered the Year of the Dragon it is a natural fit for the brand to support friends and institutions who have a mission to elevate arts and culture in Hong Kong and beyond. I have been friends with Alia for many years and had the pleasure to attend several LACMA parties which are always a highlight at this time of year. UCCA shares common owners with Shanghai Tang, so we have common DNA when it comes to showcasing arts in a lifestyle context."
