At Tatler Ball 2024, we recognised 12 inspiring individuals who have made a positive and significant impact on society through their work and passion
Each year, the Tatler Ball celebrates individuals making outstanding contributions in their fields of expertise and, in 2024, we spotlighted 12 trailblazers in culture, fashion and sports with the Impact Awards, most of whom have been featured in Tatler’s annual Asia’s Most Influential (AMI) list.
In other words, these awards honoured those who not only have excelled in their respective fields but have also contributed to the tapestry of larger society. Read through to discover who these groundbreakers are.

Humanities: Jane Goodall

Jane Goodall is a renowned primatologist, ethologist and anthropologist known for her groundbreaking research on wild chimpanzees in Tanzania. Starting in 1960, she observed their behaviour and social interactions, challenging previous assumptions about the differences between humans and animals. She founded the Jane Goodall Institute in 1977, which focuses on wildlife research, conservation and global education. Her advocacy has inspired many, especially girls and women, to take action for conservation and animal welfare, making her a prominent figure in environmental activism.
In recent years, she has continued to speak globally on issues such as climate change, habitat destruction and animal rights, advocating for a more compassionate world. Her legacy is one of profound impact, emphasising the interconnectedness of all living beings.
Diamond: Louis Koo

Louis Koo rose to prominence through his versatile acting career that spans more than three decades. He has evolved from a television idol to an acclaimed film star and producer, earning numerous prestigious awards, including the Hong Kong Film Award for Best Actor.
In 2024, Koo has furthered his legacy with Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In, which blends Hong Kong’s historical narrative with high-octane action cinema. The film revives the mystique of the infamous Kowloon Walled City and marks a resurgence in the city’s action film genre.
Its selection for both the Cannes Film Festival and as Hong Kong’s official entry for the 2025 Academy Awards’ International Feature Film category demonstrates the city’s continuous cinematic excellence.
Sports: Paralympians John Loung, Annie Cheung, Leung Yuk-wing, King Tse Tak-wah, Ho Yuen Kei, Jasmine Ng Cheuk Yan, Daniel Chan Ho-yuen and Chan Yui-lam

Boccia athlete John Loung has gone from strength to strength, winning his first Paralympic medal in 2024—and the city’s first at the 2024 Games. First-time Paralympian Annie Cheung won silver at women’s boccia individual BC4 and, together with six-time Paralympian Leung Yuk-wing, won silver in the mixed-pair boccia BC4 category. King Tse Tak-wah and Ho Yuen Kei won gold in the mixed-pair boccia BC3 category. Separately, Ho won a second gold medal in the women’s boccia individual BC3 category.
Swimmer Jasmine Ng Cheuk Yan became the youngest Hong Kong Paralympic medalist when she won bronze in Paris at the age of only 14. Daniel Chan Ho-yuen, who secured a silver medal at Paris 2024, has consistently ranked among the world’s best para-badminton players since 2011. Now retired from international competition, he aims to inspire the next generation of para-athletes. Swimmer Chan Yui-lam is a Paralympic silver medallist who also holds the Asian record for her event.

Robert Wun made history as the first Hong Kong couturier to present at Paris Haute Couture Fashion Week, marking a milestone in Asian fashion. The visionary designer has earned international acclaim for his architectural silhouettes and avant-garde creations, revolutionising contemporary haute couture through his masterful blend of futuristic elements and precise craftsmanship.

Culture: Henry Steiner

Henry Steiner, widely acclaimed as the “father of Hong Kong design”, has fundamentally shaped the visual identity of Asia’s World City for more than half a century. As a pioneering force in graphic design, he blends eastern and western cultural elements, creating iconic corporate identities for numerous prestigious institutions, including HSBC, Standard Chartered Bank and The Hong Kong Jockey Club. His revolutionary work transcends cultural boundaries, establishing design principles that continue to influence contemporary visual communication across Asia.
