Fan Bingbing, Kelly Chen, Josie Ho, Stephy Tang and many more Asian celebrities brought glamour and star power to Robert Wun’s fashion show, which was an ode to his roots in Hong Kong

On September 3, 2024, the fashion world turned its eyes to the Hong Kong Palace Museum, where renowned designer Robert Wun brought his London-based label back to Hong Kong and staged a spectacular homecoming show to celebrate its 10th anniversary.

Held in partnership with Tatler Asia and Centrestage, an annual fashion showcase organised by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council, Robert Wun’s fashion show marked a significant milestone for Wun, who made history in 2023 as the first Hong Kong designer to present at Haute Couture Week in Paris.

Since the brand’s inception, Wun has been creating custom pieces for celebrities from Lady Gaga to Priyanka Chopra, who have all gravitated towards his signature power shoulders, sharp pleating and fantastical designs.

The show’s venue, the Hong Kong Palace Museum, buzzed with excitement on the evening of September 3, reflecting the designer’s remarkable journey from Hong Kong to the global fashion stage. As the lights inside the museum dimmed, 12 new looks were adorned by fashion legends, including Asia’s original supermodel Qi Qi, as they glided down the runway.

Each piece told a story about strength and femininity, blending bold aesthetics and intricate craftsmanship. Think structural bodices, hats that commanded attention and dramatic pointy fake nails, which added an edgy flair. In a provocative twist, the models carried vintage cigarettes, trailing wisps of smoke that curled into the air, taking the show’s theatricality to another level. This masterclass in couture highlighted Wun’s ability to merge art with fashion seamlessly.

“The collection is inspired by Hong Kong—a place where I was born and raised. A mood board was pinned up with my memories, [photos of] my family and grandmother, along with [photos of] musical and cinematic icons, which influence me deeply to this day. [The collection] dissects what made me who I am today,” Wun said.

The front row featured a star-studded lineup with celebrities such as Tatler cover star and singer Josie Ho, actress Fan Bingbing, singer Kelly Chen and fashion star Yoyo Cao, all eager to witness the latest from one of the city’s most innovative talents. Their presence not only underscored Wun’s impact in the industry but also added an extra touch of glamour to the evening.

After the show, guests enjoyed cocktails at the museum, mingling and celebrating the evening’s success. The festivities continued as guests headed to Grand Majestic Sichuan in Central for the afterparty. Hosted in partnership with Christine Dai Jewellery and Black Sheep Restaurants, which operates the establishment, the party saw DJs Tedman Lee, Bright, Leung Pak Ting and Oscar Chik take turns on the decks until the wee hours. A relaxed Wun entered the venue shortly before midnight—finally able to let loose and bask in his show’s glory. It was the perfect conclusion to a night that celebrated not only Wun’s artistry but also the spirit of Hong Kong.
