1. Koo Kyo-hwan is offered to star in Netflix’s upcoming movie

Koo Kyo-hwan, who recently starred in Netflix’s D.P. has been offered to headline the streaming platform’s upcoming movie, Kill Bok Soon. If Koo accepts the offer, he will be joining Jeon Do-yeon and Sol Kyung-gu in the movie. His agency, Namoo Actors confirmed that the actor received an offer and is currently reviewing it.

Kill Bok Soon follows the story of a female killer. It will be helmed by Byun Sun-hyun, who worked on other action movies such as The Merciless.

2. Former Bit Hit producer, Adora is set to debut as a soloist

Park Soo-hyun or better known by her moniker, Adora was a former member of Big Hit Music’s in-house production team who worked on several BTS songs such as Spring Day and Magic Shop. Adora has signed a contract with a newly established agency, Aura Entertainment and is set to debut as a soloist in November.

Adora was selected to join Big Hit’s team through the 2016 audition, Next New Creator. She also used to be a trainee under Music K Entertainment and was supposedly part of the girl group, The Ark but didn’t manage to debut.

3. Production team of Princess Hours remake opens casting to fans

Earlier this year, it was announced that the hit Korean drama, Princess Hours will be having a remake. As it gears up for filming in the summer of 2022, the production team has decided to consider the fancasting made by netizens for the remake.

Based on virtual casting and polls, the top nominees for the role of Shin Chae-kyun (originally by Yoon Eun-hye) are Bae Suzy, Kim So-hyun, Kim Yoo-jung, Kim Hye-yoon and Park Bo-young. Meanwhile, the casting for leading role of Lee Shin (played by Ju Ji-hoon) is topped by Park Bo-gum, Song Kang, Hwang In-yeop, Lee Do-hyun, Ahn Hyo-seop and Kim Young-dae.

The supporting roles but equally part of the main cast are Lee Yul (played by Kim Jung-hoon) and netizens think Na In-woo is perfect for the role while Han So-hee or Go Min-si would fit Min Hyo-rin (played by Song Ji-hyo).

Princess Hours originally aired in 2006 and follows an alternate South Korea that has retained its monarchy. It focuses on the lives of Crown Prince Lee Shin, who is in love with Hyo-rin but forced to marry commoner, Chae-kyeong.

4. Im Si-wan is starring in a new revenge drama

Im Si-wan sure is booked and busy after his military service. Fresh off his Cannes appearance earlier this year, the actor is now starring in a new drama titled, Tracer. The drama will follow the a revenge-driven plot focused on the National Tax Service.

Im will be taking on the character of Hwang Dong-joo, a new team manager at Seoul’s Regional Office Investigation Bureau. He will be starring opposite Go Ah-sung as Seo Hye-young, a fellow team member.

Tracer is set to premiere sometime this year.

5. ‘Squid Game’ receives two Gotham nominations

Hit Korean drama Squid Game has been nominated for two Gotham Awards—Breakthrough Series Long Format and Outstanding Performance in a New Series for Lee Jung-jae. Lee is one of the two actors in a non-English language series to earn a nomination, the other being Lupin’s Omar Sy.

Squid Game is Netflix’s most-watched show ever, raking in 111 million views in its first 28 days with the numbers now estimated to be at 142 million viewers to date.

6. ‘Now We Are Breaking Up’ releases new poster

Following the release of its teasers and trailer, highly-anticipated Korean drama, Now We Are Breaking Up finally released its character posters. There are three in total—one each for the lead stars, Song Hye-kyo and Jang Ki-yong and one of them both gazing at each other affectionately with their nose close to touching.

The drama is set to air on November 12 and marks Song Hye-kyo’s return to the small screen while it's Jang’s last project before his military enlistment.

7. Kang Tae-oh is in talks to join Park Eun-bin for a new drama

Park Eun-bin, who is currently starring in The King’s Affection, is confirmed to star in a new drama titled Unusual Lawyer Woo Young-woo. Actor Kang Tae-oh has received an offer for the lead role of Lee Jun-ho but has yet to accept it.

Park will be taking on the role of Woo Young-woo, a young lawyer with a high IQ of 164 who was able to graduate at the top of her class at the prestigious Seoul National University. However, she also has Asperger’s syndrome and finds it difficult to interact with others.

Should Kang accept the offer, he will be playing Lee Jun-ho, an employee at the same law firm as Woo.

8. Jo In-sung, Han Hyo-joo, Ryu Seung-ryong and Cha Tae-hyun are starring in Disney+ original drama

Moving, a Disney+ original series will see the return of Jo In-sung to the small screen. Based on the eponymous webtoon, Moving is a superhero drama about a group of teenagers with hidden powers. But when dark forces threaten their loved ones, they must team up to save the world.

Jo will be playing Kim Doo-shik who can fly while Han Hyo-joo will star as Lee Mi-hyun who has superhuman senses. Ryu Seung-ryong will play Jang Joo-won, who feels no pain and has regenerative powers. Meanwhile, Cha Tae-hyun will play Jeon Kye-do who can create and control electricity while Kim Sung-hyun will take on the role of Lee Jae-man who has superhuman speed and strength.

Moving is scheduled to premiere in the second half of 2022.

9. Exo’s Kai is preparing for a comeback

Exo’s Kai is making a comeback! After SpotTVNews reported that he is set to make a solo comeback at the end of November, a source from SM Entertainment said that the report is true. “It is true that Kai is preparing a new solo album with the aim of making a comeback at the end of November. Please look forward to it.”

Last November, Kai made his solo debut with the mini-album, KAI (开) alongside the title track, Mmmh.

10. Epik High returns with new music video

Before their upcoming in-person concert in Seoul and release of Epik High is Here Part 2, Korean trio Epik High returned with a new single, Face ID. The song features Giriboy, Sik-K and Justhis and is part of their pre-release track before the second part of Epik Here is Here, their 10th album.

The song’s lyrics address the Covid-19 pandemic and shares a message of hope that we will be able to reveal our faces to the world after the pandemic.

11. Monsta X announces comeback date

After teasing for months, Monsta X finally confirms that they will be making a comeback on November 19 with a new mini-album, No Limit. Alongside the date announcement, the group also releases the first teaser. In addition to the comeback, Monsta X is also releasing an English-language album, The Dreaming on December 10.

12. Melon Music Awards announces ceremony date

Melon Music Awards, one of the biggest music awards in South Korea is happening on December 4. Due to the pandemic, this year’s awards will be held online. Artists will be awarded based on user date, votes, expert scores and other factors.

Fans can watch the award show through Melon, KakaoTV and 1theK’s YouTube Channel. “With diverse content exclusive to Melon, MMA 2021 is a global festival that artists, music fans, industry officials, and anyone who loves K-pop can participate in and enjoy together,” says Lee Jewook of Kakao Entertainment who manages Melon.

13. BTS receives three nominations at the American Music Awards

BTS makes history as the first Korean and Asian act to be nominated for Artist of the Year—the top award—at the American Music Awards. Besides the AOTY nomination, they also received nods for Favourite Pop Duo or Group for the third year in a row and their smash hit Butter clinched a Favourite Pop Song nomination.

Other nominees in the AOTY category include Ariana Grande, Drake, Olivia Rodrigo, Taylor Swift and The Weeknd. The winners will be announced on November 21.

In addition to their nomination, BTS has also confirmed that they will be leaving Columbia Records for Universal Music Group for distribution and marketing within the US and overseas. This deal is not surprising given that UMG was already distributing the group’s Japanese releases through Universal Music Japan. Earlier this year, their company, Hybe and UMG also formed a strategic partnership to debut a new boy group.

14. Netflix’s ‘Hellbound’ releases full trailer and new still images

Netflix’s Hellbound has finally dropped its official trailer and eager watchers are able to see director Yeon Sang-ho’s new creation. The upcoming Netflix series is based on the eponymous webtoon and explores a world swept by a supernatural phenomenon where executors from Hell suddenly start to condemn people. Taking advantage of the situation, a new religious group called the New Truth emerges while others try to uncover the truth behind the mysterious events.

In the trailer, we can see Park Jung-ja (Kim Shin-rok), receiving a hellbound decree from an angle while celebrating her birthday with her kids. Meanwhile, the composed voice of Jung Jin-su (Yoo Ah-in) takes over and starts explaining the supernatural phenomenon as God’s warning to sinners to be more righteous. He then says, “I’d like to welcome you all to the new world”—introducing an apocalyptic world where unforeseen stories unfold in an anarchistic society.

Hellbound premieres on November 19 on Netflix.
