This was the year that we became intimately involved with all things Mirror—the Canto-pop superstar group. With 2021 drawing to a close, let’s take a stroll down memory lane and relive some of the best Mirror moments from the year

2021 was the year that Mirror went truly supernova, making headline after headline with their great music and style statements. Despite the entertainment industry taking a hit due to the pandemic, the beloved Hong Kong boy band continued to impress with great performances and plenty of new content.

While Mirror has made a name for itself as one of the biggest Hong Kong boy bands in history, becoming the main driving force in promoting Canto-pop today, there was a time when they were nobodies. When they first debuted in 2018, the twelve young men—Frankie Chan, Alton Wong, Lokman Yeung, Stanley Yau, Anson Kong, Jer Lau, Ian Chan, Anson Lo, Jeremy Lee, Edan Lui, Keung To and Tiger Yau—were considered small players in the local music scene and a mere copy of K-pop groups.

But thanks to the members’ hard work and the support of their fans, the group was able to smash barriers and quickly rose to stardom with music that bring joy and local pride to Hongkongers amidst the pandemic gloom.

Below, we’ve compiled a list of some of the biggest Mirror moments from 2021. From winning major awards to releasing great songs and collaborating with international brands, get ready to relive all the glorious accomplishments of Mirror of the past year, and look forward to everything the group has in store for 2022.

1. 2020 Ultimate Song Chart Awards

2021 was arguably Mirror’s biggest year to date, and the top accolades they received at the 2020 Ultimate Song Chart Awards (which took place on January 1) perfectly prove that. The boys had scored nominations and solo awards at the prestigious award ceremony in previous years since their debut, but this time they took home two group awards—Group of the Year (Bronze) and Top Ten Song of the Year with a fifth single, Ignited.

These achievements reinforced the group’s belief that they were on the right path and had grown in fame for their efforts and passion. Little did they know that this was only the beginning for themselves.

2. New song release: 'Warrior'

After a few teasers and much anticipation, Mirror released their first new single for 2021 in March. Titled Warrior, the song was produced by leading K-pop hitmaker Hwan Yang in tandem with composer Val Del Prete, who previously worked with K-pop mega girl group Twice.

An inspiring exploration of hope, determination and perseverance, the pop track instantly became a chart-topping hit and resonated with listeners across the city for its upbeat melodies, powerful vocals and choreography.
