As we leave the month of July behind, Singapore’s birthday month rolls around with gusto. August is nothing short of fun as every corner of the nation soaks in the festivities. Without a doubt, a tiny island like Singapore can still be filled with entertainment due to the variety of events organised this month. From watching the NDP fireworks to savouring caviar ice cream, these are some ways to spend your time with friends and family this August.

What: Celebrating heritage and culture in line with National Day, the My Community Festival is back this year with the theme ‘Love My Neighbour’. Embark on immersive tours around the neighbourhoods of Singapore and meet old-school market vendors, hawkers, fishmongers, and residents. Other festival activities include decorating shared common spaces and conversing with shopkeepers and jade dealers.
The festival is placing an emphasis on the mesmerising Chinatown Complex this year, where visitors can enjoy chatting with cheongsam makers whilst touring around the bustling Chinatown Complex.

What: Frozen desserts are always popular on a hot day. 3. National Day festivals
What: Not a fan of rubbing shoulders with party-goers in the city? Retreat into the heartlands for a more intimate (and homely) celebration. Spread across five heartland locations, the festivals play host to an exciting line-up of live performances and fringe activities. No celebration is complete without games as festival goers look forward to sports try-outs, bouncy castles, roller skating activities, and nostalgic kampung games.

4. Gardens by the Bay and Mediacorp National Day Concert 2023
What: We are certainly spoilt for choice when it comes to choosing the perfect celebratory location for National Day. If you’re looking for a night of fun in the city, The Meadow at Gardens by the Bay is where you want to be. Congratulate Singapore on its 58th birthday with one of the country’s beloved singers, Kit Chan, among other music artists and sing your heart out to Home. Live music performances include mandopop, Tamil tunes, and a cappella stages. That’s not all as visitors will also be treated to multi-cultural performances featuring traditional Chinese and Malay musical instruments.

5. Caviar Colony x Sunday Folks pop-up
What: Caviar just got cooler. Asia’s first caviar ice cream is the brainchild of local brands Caviar Colony and Sunday Folks. The latter’s beloved ice cream recipe goes under the sea, infusing mild, rosemary, extra virgin olive oil, and Okinawa sea salt to create the ultimate caviar scoop to beat the heat.

6. Sentosa Restaurant Trail
What: Running exclusively on weekdays, the Sentosa Restaurant Trail is the flashy elder sibling of cafe-hopping. Held as part of the Sentosa Food Fest, the restaurant trail invites guests to taste a myriad of flavours from specially curated menus. Participating restaurants include Native Kitchen at Village Hotel Sentosa, The Cliff at Sofitel Singapore Sentosa Resort and Spa, and Tipsy Unicorn Beach Club.

7. Sundown Festival 2023
What: Dance the night away to tunes from the best Asian names in music, including Taiwanese singer Jam Hsiao, Malaysian rapper Namewee, and deejay and Bling Empire personality Kim Lee. Held in the historic Pasir Panjang Power Station, the heritage building is the quintessential location for partying it out on the dance floor.

8. Singapore Night Festival 2023
What: The island’s favourite arts festival takes a tech spin this year as festival-goers get a chance to win prizes through its MightWalk web app. Themed “Singapore, the Great Port City”, step into the country’s glory days in trade and exchange represented with over 50 festival experiences. Explore the stories behind temples, art spaces, and markets on the night fest Photo Walk or savour Singapore’s gastronomic heritage at an enticing culinary tour featuring treats from Singapore’s many immigrant communities.
