Amidst news of BTS’ contract renewal and official group hiatus, the members have been busy individually. Find out what they are up to here

It hasn’t been a year since megahit boy group BTS announced their group hiatus, but it feels like it. Last June 14, they revealed the saddening news of their break to fans—Armys—via BTS Fiesta Livestream, and the fandom has been coping with difficulty ever since. The whole K-pop community is, according to Hybe chairperson Bang Si-Hyuk, who describes the industry as “in crisis.”

The group’s contract renewal with HYBE and BigHit Music hit the airwaves on September 2023, promising their fans that they’d “stay together in 2025 and beyond”, and has been a cause for celebration.

In a statement, HYBE shared that they have “completed the board of directors’ resolution to renew the exclusive contract for seven members of BTS.” Additionally, to celebrate, BigHit Music will donate USD 752,000 to UNICEF.

Until then, the silver lining that comes with the break is each member’s opportunity to shine. We’ve already witnessed how Suga, J-Hope, Jin and RM rocked the charts with their mixtapes and solos, even before the hiatus, but now it also gave the younger members the limelight.

In this article, Tatler lists what the members have been up to—whether in the music scene or their mandatory military training.

V

Taehyung is no stranger to solo songs. Before his solo debut of the pre-release track Love Me Again, he had already lent his voice to several OSTs in the past: from Sweet Night for Itaewon Class to Christmas Tree for Our Beloved Summer

Quality is no longer a question, fans are sure, even before his solo was out, that it would be great. Its achievement is just a cherry on top. Love Me Again debuted on the Hot 100—Billboard’s weekly ranking of the most popular songs in the United States—at No. 96 in its first week.

This coming September 9 and September 13, the singer will be performing at NPOP, the new Naver Now weekly music program. Alongside his solo debut title track, Slow Dancing, fans will have to guess what three other songs he will perform from his first solo album, Layover

J-Hope and Jin

We all know J-Hope and Jin are in the middle of their mandatory military training. Still, it is a joy to see them treat fans with photo updates during their breaks and in-betweens.

Last August 17, J-Hope delighted fans by posting selfies of him in his uniform. “I’ll be Hwaiting again!! (I’ll be working hard again!!),” he says in the caption.

Jin wasn’t shy in posting photos in uniform as well. He posted a picture with J-Hope and Jimin visiting him in training last March 4.

Jin and J-hope have been spotted recently with fellow member RM attending the last day of Suga’s D-Day concert in Seoul.

Suga event gave them a shoutout: “I need to say this when I sing People Part 2. My brother, shoutout to J-Hope. I want to thank J-Hope for making me a cool choreography. Jin as well. Whenever I sing this, I feel like I’m with J-Hope.”

Jungkook

July 14 this year was a special day for Jungkook and his fans. He released his solo single entitled Seven, featuring American rapper and singer Latto.

The music video stars K-drama actor Han So-hee, who is known for her roles in acclaimed shows The World of the Married and Nevertheless. It garnered over nine million views in just three hours of its release. Now, it has over 175 million views. His single stayed atop the US Billboard Global 200 and Global Excl. US charts for the fifth consecutive week.

Recently, his campaign with Calvin Klein has been making noise. Fans saw a different side to the singer, with him exuding sexiness and confidence—looking stunning in a denim ensemble.

Jimin

The third time’s the charm. Jimin also officially debuted solo this year—achieving accolades with his album ‘Face’. It scored the second-biggest opening week for an album this year, according to data by Luminate.

Last May 1, he shared on his Instagram account photos with Suga during the latter’s concert.

RM

RM has been keeping himself busy with music as well these days. His most recent release is a feature with Korean singer-songwriter Colde. In the song, both artists reflect on infidelity and the fallout that ensues after it comes to light.

Not so long ago, the singer also shared about being stressed and gaining weight, resulting in a Weverse Livestream. In the chat with fans, he revealed that he missed his fellow members.

Suga

Two weeks ago, Suga concluded his first solo world tour entitled ‘Suga | Agust D Tour D-Day’, bidding his fans a heartfelt farewell. The tour might have come to an end, but it marked the start of a new path in his career.

He may be the third member to enlist in Korea’s mandatory military service. Last August 7, Bighit Entertainment released a statement indicating that Suga has now initiated his “military enlistment process by applying for the termination of his enlistment postponement”.
