Straits at Joo Chiat by Sujonohun
The Straits at Joo Chiat’s 2,300 sq ft show gallery is a soulful sanctuary that embraces the neighbourhood’s rich Peranakan heritage. Sujonohun was commissioned to materialise a modern interpretation of Peranakan design, drawing inspiration from historical architecture and the charming Katong-Joo Chiat neighbourhood’s strong heritage.
Peranakan tiles were incorporated as a recurring motif and cleverly interpreted in different ways to liven up various areas in the gallery and show flat. Botanical designs commonly seen on these tiles take on both ornamental and abstracted forms in the interior, paired with elegant furnishings in terracotta and earthy hues.
