An exquisite mosaic mural is one of the unexpected highlights of this apartment in central Singapore, which takes inspiration from Italian villas. While the owners did not emphasise a preference for any specific interior design style, they knew they wanted a mural wall in their home. The request for a floral mosaic mural was also reflective of their unconventional fashion sense. “The starting point for the home’s design was our well-dressed clients,” says Terrence Quah, co-founder of Architology Interiors and the lead designer for this project.

This emphasis on craft extends to the open-plan living area, where a grey marble feature wall is flanked by a pair of custom-made shelves with marble-clad drawer fronts at their base. Held together by heavy-duty tracks, these drawers conceal audio equipment, a function that is shared by a recessed area below the TV. And instead of installing the botanical mosaic feature wall in the living room, where it might look too ostentatious, the designer positioned the mural in the master bathroom where it could make a dramatic impact, while staying true to the home’s elegant look.

Designed by K2SD Group, this calming abode offers greenery and comfort in abundance; it also features a stylish vertical garden in the living area. “For the design scheme of this house, we were seeking to envelop one in nature and modernism through a playful mix of elements,” explains architect and designer Kelly Kawahara Cheah, founding principal of K2SD Group.

One central aspect of the home’s design is the air well. Seizing upon “the chance to create a natural environment inside out”, Cheah harnessed a mindful design approach and introduced the beauty of nature into the home by creating a stunning feature wall with lush indoor greenery and wood accents.

Local design firm Mr Shopper Studio employed pattern to dramatic effect when tasked to do up this two-bedroom apartment in Marina One Residences. Set against a dusky scheme and bolstered by a mix of interesting materials, these playful motifs help to raise the boutique-inspired apartment to new levels of visual interest and make its spaces pop.

The sumptuous living area is punctuated by a bold dash of colour in the form of a royal blue sofa that begs to be lounged on. This vibrant seat is set against a striking marble-effect wall mural in tones of black and grey that brings the space to life with its undulating lines. Lending a surreal touch is a monochromatic artwork depicting a dancer rapt in her routine.

SuMisura has ingeniously combined two units in South Beach Residences to create a glamorous home that celebrates its art deco influences. The owners were so impressed by the show units that the design firm had designed for the development that they wanted the same company to combine their new units into a family-friendly apartment.

Although the two units were located side by side, they had different layouts. One apartment featured a square configuration, while the other employed an elongated plan for its open-concept communal areas. To add to the spatial conundrum, the neighbouring units were separated by a slanted column. Furthermore, the design team could only remove a small segment of the partition wall that used to separate both units so it would not affect the structural integrity of the property. The master bedroom notably features a sunburst design on its doors, which can be seen from the corridor. “It’s an art piece that lends itself as a backdrop in the living hall as well as a grand entrance to the master suite while offering an additional layer of privacy and acoustic control,” says Angela Lim, the founder of SuMisura.

This elegant, light-filled apartment designed by The Scientist offers various surprises: a blue kitchen and a host of tactile elements that gives it a modern edge. Principal designer Alvin Ling and his team aimed to create a “castle in the sky”, taking advantage of the ample illumination to highlight various elements. “The brief was for an effortlessly elegant interior, with entertaining as the focus; the interior is designed to generate a sense of wonder both inside and out,” explains Ling.

Grey flooring distinguishes the kitchen from the living area, and a large graphic artwork on the wall highlights this room, making it a beautiful extension of the main house. White walls and grey joinery accented with trimmings, and white marble flooring impart a sophisticated feel to the overall interior. They serve as a perfect foil for the couple’s prized sculptures and art pieces, which make colourful additions to the home.
