After recent wins at the International Property Awards, we delve into Summerhaus D'zign’s creative processes, highlighting the firm’s approach to personalised interior design.
Summerhaus D’zign, the highly favoured interior design firm founded by Jess Koh and Larry Lim, has been shaking things up in Singapore’s design scene with their recent projects – among them, Coastline Residences and Jadescape. Both of these homes showcase the firm’s signature philosophy of simplicity, clean lines and a tailored approach to meet the specific requirements of their clients.
Coastline is a stunning residence for a single female homeowner who envisioned a glamorous designer boutique-like ambiance. With a predominantly white palette and a focus on exquisite finishes, Summerhaus D'zign transformed her dream into reality. The result is a serene space that perfectly captures her desire for simplicity and elegance. She was so pleased with the outcome that she even sought to feature it in a local magazine.

In contrast, Jadescape presented a more complex challenge. Designed for a family of four, this project required balancing the husband’s wish for bold, luxurious details with the wife’s preference for minimalism.
“When the owners first approached us, they shared numerous references from Russian and Eastern European designers, showcasing intricate designs with detailed wood finishes,” shares Larry. “Our first draft with wood veneers didn’t appeal to them. Through detailed discussions, we discovered they liked the ambiance of the images but not the wood grains. This insight allowed us to better align our design with their preferences.”

After several iterations and open discussions, Jess and Larry successfully married the contrasting styles into a harmonious design that features subtle textures and muted colours.
“Each project, regardless of its design style, features understated forms, textures, and prints. These are complemented by streamlined hidden doors (e.g., the bedrooms of Coastline Residences and the main door of Jadescape) and ample storage solutions to manage household items and reduce clutter,” Larry explains.

Adding to their accolades, Summerhaus D'zign recently triumphed at the International Property Awards (IPA) 2024, winning in multiple categories, including Residential Interior Apartment Singapore and Best Bathroom Design Singapore for Arcadia.

Jess and Larry expressed their gratitude for these honours, viewing them as validation of their commitment to excellence in design. With the wins, they aim to elevate their practice from local recognition to regional acclaim, continuously striving for innovation.
With each project, Summerhaus D'zign reinforces its belief that good design must be both beautiful and functional. Whether it’s the tranquil elegance of Coastline Residences or the thoughtfully balanced aesthetics of Jadescape, every home is a reflection of their dedication to crafting spaces that truly reflect their clients' lifestyles.
