Find out who was crowned the best in class this year

Since 1986, Tatler Singapore has been providing gourmands a snapshot of the island’s top restaurants through our annual Tatler Dining Guide. For our in-house editorial team and expert reviewers, it has been quite an epicurean adventure—from witnessing the rise of the local F&B scene, its struggle during the pandemic, to its post-Covid-19 recovery.

For the past year, our dining scene has slowly but surely bounced back from the pandemic. Our memorable meals were captured in this year’s edition of theTatler Dining Guide, a collection of 207 restaurants across the island.

There were a few establishments that stood out from the rest, which brings us to our annual Best of the Year awards: Best New Restaurant, Best Service, Best Interior Design and Top 20, as voted on by our anonymous reviewers and voting panel. For the first time in the Tatler Dining Guide’s 37-year history, we introduced the Restaurant of the Year accolade. And, the establishment which got the most votes in our Top 20 nominations, was automatically named Restaurant of the Year.

Read on below to find out which restaurants earned these well-deserved titles.

Best New Restaurant - The most exciting restaurant that has been in operation for less than a year—one that we would return to over and over again.

Best Service - A venue that consistently goes above and beyond to create a memorable dining experience.

Best Interior Design - A venue that makes the best visual impact and unforgettable first impression.

Restaurant of the Year - This new award recognises the highest ranking restaurant in the Tatler Dining 20 list, as voted on by our panel of industry leaders and tastemakers.

Best New Restaurant Winner: Restaurant Born

It has been a busy year for Malaysian-born chef Zor Tan, who opened Restaurant Born after working with celebrated chef Andre Chiang for over a decade. At his contemporary restaurant, he celebrates the circle of life, or his personal and professional milestones expressed through his nine guiding principles: birth, roots, memories, craft, relationship, vicissitudes, time, progress and legacy.

Chef-owner Ivan Brehm’s ‘crossroads’ cooking—which means that food cultures are interconnected and that no dish is created in silo—is translated from the kitchen to the plate with the help of enthusiastic staff who communicate the message clearly to the guests. Best Interior Design Winner: Restaurant Born

Just like Zor Tan's menu, Restaurant Born's interior design is a ‘sensory journey’ that reflects the chef-owner’s passions, adventures and challenges. The design theme is ‘modern meets heritage’, thus the cavernous dining hall (located at a conserved building in Tanjong Pagar) is decked out in two-tiered colonnade, arches and an eye-catching sculpture made out of paper hanging from the ceiling.

Restaurant of the Year Winner: Jaan by Kirk Westaway

Since taking the reigns at Jaan in 2015, executive chef Kirk Westaway has made the restaurant his own by serving up modern British cuisine. Classic dishes such as the British eggs and soldiers, as well as fish and chips are reimagined in many delicious ways, enticing loyal and new fans to keep coming back for more. To boot, the restaurant has debuted a spanking new look that pays homage to Westaway’s hometown of Devon, southwest England.
