1. Fluffed Café
Petaling Jaya
Fluffed Café is perhaps one of the Klang Valley’s most renowned waffle spots, and for good reason. Its sheer number of topping combinations and unique ice cream flavours cannot be beaten. Each waffle is consistently crisp, remaining delicate enough to slice like butter. Its speciality may be plain waffles, but you’ll also be able to find pandan, charcoal, and cocoa variations. While an assortment of fixed waffle preparations are mainstays here, diners may also customise flavour combinations.

Instead, the café serves savoury versions that won’t see you receive questioning looks as you order a plate for lunch. Hidden along the shoplots of Taman Desa is one of the Klang Valley’s best kept culinary secrets. It is a wonder how Front Room & The Kneady Baker does not have street-long queues forming outside its doors, being home to some of the most soulful comfort food in the area. Visit for a portion of bak kut teh pie, but stay for the eatery’s signature waffles. Uncomplicated and down-to-earth, passionfruit curd, fresh strawberries, and gula Melaka crumble top fluffy buttermilk waffles.

The Fox Hole Bakery Café’s brunch platter big enough to feed a small army is a necessity when in Subang Jaya. Amongst a smorgasbord of brunch and afternoon tea offerings, the café serves waffles in both sweet and savoury preparations. Supplanting the conventional bed of sourdough or English muffins, find waffles topped with poached eggs and shredded slow-cooked beef or with fried chicken and homemade maple glaze.

6. Sprout Plant Based Fusion
Bangsar
While plant-based dining options have seen an exponential increase in recent years, vegan sweets can still be hard to come by. Sprout Plant Based Fusion fills this void with its very own vegan waffles. The eggless batter is pressed into a heated iron until golden brown and then topped with homemade plant-based whipped cream, berries, bananas, and caramel drizzle. For those who’d prefer a savoury version, the Jalan Telawi café offers vegan chicken and waffles.

7. Fatbaby Ice Cream
Subang
Fatbaby Ice Cream should be on your waffle bucket list despite being known for incredibly executed ice cream. Its waffles are made without frills—its simplicity being its high point. The waffles’ edges are bafflingly precise, with an exterior almost as crusty as a loaf of freshly baked bread. Consistently served warm, allow one of the dessert bar’s many ice cream flavours to partially melt into its grooves before digging in. We recommend going with a scoop of lemon pie ice cream for a tart but balanced treat.

When considering a waffle, we often think of a ridged grid with deep indentations meant to be flooded with melted ice cream or warm strawberry sauce. Urban Artisan aims to redefine this completely. Instead of traditional waffles, the dessert spot specialises in bubble waffles. These waffles act as a vessel for other indulgences, wrapping around generous portions of fillings and toppings. Each offering is immensely decadent, topped with whole chocolate bars and sandwich cookies.

Revered by TTDI residents, Frisky Goat Bakery Café is equipped with an impressive menu of savoury dishes, but crowd favourites prove its selection of waffles. Three variations of Belgian waffles can be found here. Its classic waffles are slathered in Chantilly cream, honey, and butter, alongside a healthy sprinkle of spiced walnuts and toasted almond flakes, while its banana butterscotch waffles see vanilla ice cream drizzled in homemade butterscotch, accompanied by caramelised bananas and sliced strawberries. The a la Ámericaine fuses the two with an addition of chocolate sauce.

12. Churn Ice Cream
Damansara Utama
What are waffles, if not mediums that allow you to eat multiple scoops of ice cream in one sitting? Churn Ice Cream takes this up a notch with sourdough waffles. Leavened with sourdough starter instead of typical buttermilk, the waffles at this Damansara Uptown ice cream joint are not to be missed. Indescribably airy from a mild ferment, these are best complemented by a scoop (or three) of the dessert spot’s ice creams.
