Here are the best Deepavali-inspired menus to indulge in during the Festival of Lights

Deepavali, also known as the Festival of Lights, symbolises the ‘victory’ of light over darkness. Falling on October 24 this year, this major Hindu festival is a joyous period is one filled with religious rituals, spending time with loved ones, and savouring a hearty meal.
 
This year, Deepavali celebrations are back in full force, after two years of Covid-19 restrictions. This means we are finally allowed to celebrate this occasion in its entirety. Chefs around the island are clearly excited as well and have come up with mouth-watering menus to honour the festival. Here are some menus to look out for whether you head out or stay home this Diwali.

1. The Line

In honour of Deepavali, this buffet restaurant has expanded its selection of Indian fare. Its latest ‘Taste of India’ spread puts the spotlight on traditional North Indian delicacies from freshly made tandoori Jhinga King prawns to juicy baby lamb rack kebabs. The latter sees succulent lamb slow-cooked with spices until tender. Vegetarian delicacies are also available, including the tandoori paneer with butter mushroom kebabs. Save room for dessert and get to indulge in nostalgic sweet creations, such as spongy kesar rasmalai, fresh milk dumplings; and kaju burfi, a mithai made of cashew nuts, sugar, and cardamom powder. 2. Rempapa

Chef Damian D’Silva is celebrating this holiday with two exclusive dishes—Kool and Lamb Dhalcha—both of which he learnt from his grandfather. The former is a Northern Sri Lankan specialty, a hearty stew made from a mix of fresh seafood including fish, crab, prawns, and cuttlefish. It’s elevated with the addition of tart tamarind juice and dried chilli flakes. The latter is a Eurasian interpretation of the traditional South Indian lentil stew. D’Silva’s version sees fork tender lamb ribs, lentils, and potatoes mixed with aromatic spices, and stewed until fragrant. Head down from October 22 to 24 and savour festive flavours, starting with crisp onion bhaji (fritter) and fluffy butter naan. Then, dig into hearty mains like the spicy Kerala crab masala and succulent Kashmiri lamb Rogan josh. 4. Shikar

Feast on delectable Indian fare this Deepavali with Shikar’s Diwali experience menu. Vegetarian and non-vegetarian menus are available, with both menus putting the spotlight on the restaurant’s signature dishes. Dinner begins with crisp lotus stem chips and puffed makhana (prickly water lily). These whet the palate for tantalising dishes that are to come. Rang Mahal is going all out for Deepavali with its six-course Diwali Celebration set menu. Get ready to tuck into these mouth-watering creations: juicy applewood smoked lamb chops; rich and creamy Old Delhi butter chicken; and paneer tikka in a tomato honey sauce. These dishes are served alongside fluffy garlic naan, roti, and seasonal vegetables.
