The single malt Scotch whisky brand deepens its travel retail presence in Asia Pacific with a new shop-in-shop at Changi Airport, featuring the first The Macallan island bar in this format alongside tasting, gifting and digital discovery experiences

The Macallan has opened its first-ever shop-in-shop at Singapore Changi Airport, deepening the single malt Scotch whisky brand’s presence in travel retail. Located in Terminal 3, the 19sqm space is a collaboration with Lotte Duty Free Singapore and Changi Airport Group.

Designed to strike a balance between retail and hospitality, the shop-in-shop introduces The Macallan’s first island bar. Finished in the brand’s signature red and framed by oak wave patterns inspired by the distillery’s roof and the rolling landscape of Speyside, the open layout encourages closer interaction between travellers and brand consultants.

The island bar also serves as a tasting counter, offering travellers the opportunity to sample travel-exclusive and limited releases, including the Colour Collection and the Harmony Collection. Gifting elements, such as branded ribbons, are available for those purchasing bottles as presents.

Digital features form an integral part of the experience. Shoppers can use Discover Your Expression, supported by a nosing tool, to identify whiskies suited to their preferences, while a dedicated Six Pillars installation provides insight into the foundations of The Macallan’s whisky-making through a multisensory approach.

Commenting on the opening, Wilcy Wong, commercial director – Global Travel Retail at Edrington, said: “This latest opening at Changi Airport, one of the most significant aviation gateways in Asia Pacific, connects The Macallan to the millions of travellers passing through it each year… We’re excited to offer a multisensorial experience that blends storytelling and hospitality.”

Jeff Jeong Soongyu, managing director of Lotte Duty Free Singapore, added: “This opening marks an important milestone in The Macallan’s and Lotte’s shared commitment to delivering world-class retail experiences that inspire and engage discerning travellers.”
