The revered cognac house worked with three creative minds to develop a short film that reflects the infinite time for great things to happen
Time plays a crucial role in the making of the legendary Louis XIII, as it is crafted by generations of cellar masters using the most precious eaux‐de‐vie—some have been aged for a century. It is in this regard that the French cognac house has launched its global campaign, Believe in Time, which reflects its unique relation to time by paying tribute to Mother Earth.
This concept is better expressed through film, so Louis XIII tapped into the creative minds of Grammy Award-winning singer Solange Knowles and Chinese couture designer Guo Pei to create a masterpiece that tackles human beings’ place in the universe and the infinite time it takes for great things to happen.

Directed by lauded French-Senegalese director Mati Diop, the short film stars Solange as Mother Earth. Dressed in Pei’s sumptuous garment crafted with the most precious rocks, metals and fabric, Knowles takes us through the evolution of the earth—from the Big Bang that kickstarted the universe 13 billion years ago to the formation of the Himalayas and the evolution of humans.
Knowles also composed an original track for the film. Just like how the earth is created, the piece was built in real time with just one instrument and different layers were added to it to build upon all the sonics and textures. “Time and space are really at the foundation of my expressions,” says Knowles, adding that these ideas align with what is being expressed in Louis XIII’s latest campaign.
