Three years after The Origin—1874 was released, the first Louis XIII opus of time collection that pays tribute to its beginnings over a century ago, the cognac house is back with another masterpiece: the Louis XIII Time Collection: Tribute to the City of Lights—1900.
How did this come about? During this period, the City of Lights played host to the Paris World Fair 1900, a massive festival showcasing engineering marvels as well as technical and creative triumphs that seemed way ahead of their time.
Not surprisingly, Louis XIII was already part of the action. It even stood out amongst the 83,000 exhibitors by earning the highest praise, thanks in part to Paul Émile Rémy Martin, its founder and active jury member of the Paris Universal Exposition.
Over a century later, the belle epoque has been captured in a limited-edition bottle made in collaboration with storied French houses, crystal manufacturer Saint-Louis and medallion artisan Monnaie de Paris.

Saint-Louis took charge of the decanter, a remake of the initial bottle that looked like the flask discovered on the Battlefield of Jarnac in 1569. Both sides contain 13 decorative spikes (instead of the usual 10), and its elongated neck is crowned by the stopper in the shape of an upturned decanter.
Aside from the fleur de lys decorated with 18 karat champagne gold on the body, there’s also a striking medal specially designed by Monnaie de Paris to commemorate the 1900s.
In keeping with technology, there’s even an NFC chip integrated into a cork stopper that can be scanned using an NFC-enabled smartphone with just a tap. Members will be logged into the Louis XIII Society website and get access to exclusive perks, including customised engraving, private tastings as well as invitations to network with fellow cognac enthusiasts around the world.
There are only 2,000 numbered decanters available worldwide, and each one comes in a gold coffret as well as a full-sized medal, stamped with the same number and specially minted by the Monnaie de Paris (Paris Mint) special workshops.
