With a facade of terracotta colour that extends into the interior, Provisions' soothing design is just one of their standouts, the other being its homemade sourdough which enjoys a substantial measure of fame amongst the urbanites. The bread is often paired with house-made French butter, jam, and sous vide kaya.

For heartier sandwiches, the fluffy Japanese milk loaf with egg-dijon-mayonnaise and classic grilled cheese sandwich served with tomato soup are recommended. Then there is the sourdough French toast with ricotta, jam and honey, should you have a sweet craving.

For lunch, start with the charred local vegetables with garlic and steamed egg custard with mapo mushroom. Then choose from its selection of rice bowls including the House Rice Bowl comprising chicken, chilli mayo, pickles, ginger scallions, and an egg. The coconut panna cotta makes for a nice finale to the meal.

For a light dinner, opt for the Rojak "Panzanella", its version of the popular Malaysian snack with crispy stale bread, and finish on a sweet note with the Bruléed Figs With Tamarind Caramel and Yoghurt.

A labour of love for founder Terrance Chong, Wild Yeast's sourdough breads are scrumptious and comes in a number of styles. At the top of our list are the country sourdough and the cranberry with black sesame sourdough. Also take the opportunity to savour one of its sandwiches—we recommend the Chicken Major With Guacamole—and wash it down with homemade iced calamansi based on a recipe by Chong's mother.
