Don’t be a creature of habit and head to these newly opened establishments for a taste of their delectable offerings

It’s a great time to be a gourmand in Singapore. Three months into 2022—and despite the Omicron variant still raging in the community—the dining scene is still getting back on track with a slew of new restaurant openings. Here are five worth checking out.

1. Goho

In the mood for Japanese food? F&B group Proper Concepts has launched Goho, an omakase joint inspired by the five important elements in preparing a kaiseki meal. These are colours (goshiki), methods (goho), flavours (gomi), senses (gokan), and considerations (gokan no mon).

There are three menus to choose from—Sakura (nine courses), Umire (11 courses) and Ume (13 courses). Opt for the latter and feast on decadent creations like the poached awabi (abalone) placed atop a bed of sushi rice accented with liver sauce, bafun uni and sea grapes; and Mt. Goho, a towering pile of uni, Wagyu beef, toro, snow crab legs, ikura and caviar that’s served in a glass dome.

The menu is complemented by Japanese-focused cocktails created by Diageo World Class 2016 champion and co-owner Boo Jing Hen. Beers, wines and non-alcoholic beverages are also available. Book here.

White Marble is chef Otto Weibel’s ode to the Mediterranean. Drawing cues from his travels in the region, he has crafted an extensive menu that brings the beautiful flavours of Spain, Portugal, France, Morocco and the Middle East to this side of the world. Following the culinary philosophy of this cuisine, dishes are crafted with the season’s best bounty and prepared with simple cooking techniques that let the ingredients shine through.

Offerings here are better shared, so gather your family or friends and feast on appetisers such as roasted butternut squash, chargrilled octopus, and broccolini and fine green beans. These whet the appetite for the mains to come, and one of the signatures is the prawn bucatini puttanesca. This well-loved Italian pasta is entwined with a luscious sauce concocted with fresh cherry tomatoes, capers, olives, garlic, prawns and anchovies. Book here.

Who can resist pizzas? Not Beyonce and Jay-Z, and definitely not us. That is why we’re ecstatic to report that another pizza institution from Brooklyn, New York—which is has drawn celebrities like the aforementioned power couple—has opened its doors at Marina Bay Sands.

It is famous for its Neapolitan style pizzas which have a thin crust and chewy cornicione (edge of the pizza). For the die-hard fans, you’ll be glad to know that most of the signatures are available in the Singapore menu.

Get started with the classic Margherita with a tomato base topped with mozzarella and basil, or get cheesy with the Famous Original loaded with gooey mozzarella, sharp parmigiano and smoky caciocavallo, as well as oregano and chillies.
